Well Tattsbet (that big building in the background built with mug punter funds) have again displayed exactly how pathetic they are as an organization by not having one solitary fixed odds market up on Caloundra tomorrow at 6.30pm tonight - even though every other TAB and the corporates do. What a bunch of sooks. "Have a go yer mugs". The official line is that the markets could be out "if the meeting gets switched to the cushion". Well what about the fact that if the meeting got switched to the cushion there would be massive scratchings and deductions, so Tattsbet wouldn't be exposed anyway. And in any event the radio station Tattsbet own has already interviewed the Caloundra track manager both yesterday and today and he said it's going ahead on a heavy 10. New Racing Queensland Chairman Kevin Dixon needs to also resign if the meeting is not held on the grass track, as his organization is also saying the Caloundra meeting is definitely happening on the turf, on a heavy 10 track.

Justracing can exclusively reveal tonight that the SES have been placed on full alert and will be on hand in big numbers at the Caloundra race meeting tomorrow. The reason for the presence of the SES is really a no brainer, due to the track being assured of being a heavy 10 for the meeting.
Justracing understands that the SES have been asked to bring their fluorescent clothing and coal miners caps - complete with light attached - to be able to find disorientated, slow and knackered equine athletes that have raced on the day, but who have not been able to find their way in before darkness sets in. SES Chief Ivor Spotlight told Justracing “I’m really concerned about Races 2, 5 and 7. It’s possible the rest of the meeting could be held up - or even put back a race - if one of these acceptors in Race 2 goes to the barrier. He wouldn’t run 1600 if you pushed him out of a Cessna at 1601 metres and now he’s got a heavy 10 track to race on as well. What are they thinking”?
Ivor also thought some of the 3YO’s in Race 5, the Sunshine Coast Guineas, were a worry by stating “Gee there’s a few classic chaffbandits and oxygen thieves (words he’s stolen from Justracing) in amongst this crew that could get in after dark”. When the subject changed to the Caloundra Cup, Ivor said, “some of these little darlings that are engaged in the Caloundra Cup will sleep well Saturday night, in fact I reckon they’ll be snoring loudly.”
Lester Grimmett, Senior Handicapper for Racing Queensland has sent the scaled weights through for Caloundra tomorrow and they read: Race 1 + 2 kgs, Race 6 – 2 kgs, Race 7 – 2 kgs and Race 8 + 0.50 kg.
There was no need to contact Murray Weeding at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club as the track is a heavy 10 and won’t be upgraded, so we all know what we are dealing with.
Tomorrow is a big day at the Townsville Turf Club for the family of the late jockey Skinny Thomas, who will be remembered via a race being named in his honour. I wrote Skinny’s biography long after his passing, with valuable assistance from his granddaughter, Townsville resident Desley Cahill - and that biography can be read by clicking HERE. Skinny Thomas rode all seven winners at the Townsville meeting on 27/7/1929. Why was he called “Skinny”? Well have you ever heard of a jockey called “Fatso” whilst he was still riding? No – me neither.
