One of the real Big days of racing hits in Sydney on Saturday – not that you would ever know it with the lack of publicity- but it’s actually the Golden Slipper this weekend. I think the job done by the Turf Club has been horrible in promoting the Golden Slipper as it is almost every year as you would be forgiven for thinking the “CHAMPIONSHIP” was the world’s richest two year old race.

Admittedly the race doesn’t have any champions or even Genuine Group 1 older horses in the future- with perhaps the exception of Catchy- however the promotion done I think has been very poor. I did find it laughable that for some reason they bring in a supposed world class model (if she is a world class model then I’m harry potter as she looked pretty normal to me) and asked her to promote the racing. The response to the question who do you like in the race “Ah She Will Reign as I like the sound of the name” – I’m sorry just doesn’t cut it.  She clearly had no idea and I can guarantee you that the amount of people she has attracted to racing or got interested in racing is a big FAT ZERO. Whoever decides that these type of people are interesting to race goers clearly needs to be given the Don’t Come Monday Talk from Mr V’landys!!! Fair Dinkum. What’s wrong with paying a big name successful professional punter to give a talk on what he thinks or get perhaps the most knowledgeable man in racing, Rob Waterhouse to talk. At least he has a brain in his head and could provide some interesting observations on the race and racing in general.

Anyway, onto this weekend’s racing we have a Bottomless Rosehill track to contend with on a 3m rail and I’d suggest that when you are doing your betting concentrate on heavy track horses with ROSEHILL form and don’t pay too much attention to Canterbury or Randwick Heavy form as the surfaces are completely different. As the aim of this article is to provide you with some winning bets each week I think the race that is a clear standout betting wise is the opening race on the card.

Race 1 Irresistible Pools & Spas N E Manion Cup:

Horse Settles Comment
Allergic 3-5 off the lead Best Price is $4.80. Bet Now Very unusual for the stable but he backs up 3 weeks in a row and whilst he doesn’t have the class he has much needed race fitness on most of these and that gives him a great hope. However, whilst he has a chance if the track is a genuine heavy I dislike him as his 2 goes on a heavy track his raced once on a Slow 7 for a 5th place finish and his only go on a heavy 10 was 2 ago and he was beaten 5 lengths although the speed was against. On race fitness though I want him on my side as fitness is telling in these events. Against that will be the jockey who will not know the right lanes and has already cost the stable 2-3 wins with his lack of knowledge on the tracks- however the bloke is world class and can ride.
Kinema Last- 5- 6 off the lead Best Price is $5. Bet Now There is no doubt he is the most classy and best horse in the field in terms of what he has done- but I’m not sure about him on a heavy testing track when only 3rd up. If he was 5th up he would be on top- however 3rd up off just pass marks is the concern. The jockey certainly won’t hurt as he is best in the world- by some way.
Big Duke Worse than Midfield to midfield 3 to 5 off Best Price is $3.60. Bet Now He is 24 days into this which isn’t ideal and I dislike tipping my own horses publically but his win in Launceston was amazing considering the bias that day and how hard he did it. D K Weir has yet to train a winner in Sydney either so that’s against him- but he is a horse who should find the conditions ok and he has a lot of upside. He will be in the finish.
Our Century Could easily lead but I think they sit midfield Best Price is $3.20. Bet Now It can be argued he beat nothing in the Wangaratta Cup but his win was huge and the figures from the effort even better. Against him is 3rd up at 2400m which is never a winning recipe however I’d suggest R Hickmott is one of the top 5 trainers in the country based on some of the efforts he has done with horses over the last 2 years and I’d suggest he can defy the statistics and he is a winning chance.
Café Society Attempts to lead but might have to sit OSL or 1 out 1 back as his not that fast Best Price is $9.50. Bet Now Visually his effort last start was great – but on the figures it was poor. Gai is a freak trainer but this looks beyond him on both class and fitness basis.
Shalmanesar Sits 2nd box seat Best Price is $18. Bet Now He is an honest bugger but not in this league.
Paragon Leads here Best Price is $71. Bet Now He is our leader and I expect him to be gone nice and early as the class tells on him.

Last week we got the chocolates again when Humidor went enormous to ensure the profit on these free previews continues to do well.

This week it looks a 3 horse race but I’d put them down this way: 3 units Big Duke and 2 units on Our Century.
