Home option suits Grey Street

Connections of Grey Street have chosen to send her back to the scene of her most recent win rather than aim at a stakes race in Adelaide.

Grey Street runs in Saturday’s Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap for which she is the $4.20 favourite.

Trainer John McArdle’s first thought after Grey Street won at Caulfield two weeks ago was to head to Adelaide on Saturday week while part-owner Terry Martin preferred the Caulfield option.

“We decided to have a look and see how the nominations came up for this race,” McArdle said.

“It’s a $100,000 race at probably her favourite track and that’s part of the reason we’re staying here this weekend.”

The Caulfield track on Saturday is rated in the good range which is a slight concern for McArdle.

The trainer is also worried about barrier 11 in the 14 horse field following the scratching of topweight Scratchy Lass.

“I probably would have liked to have seen a little bit of rain because it does make her more effective but she handles all types of going,” McArdle said.

“It’s a little bit of an awkward barrier but if she gets the right run I’m sure she’ll be her usual competitive self.”

McArdle said he doubted the mare would back up into next week’s race in Adelaide even if she performed well.

The McArdle-Martin combination also has first starter Tourist Attraction contesting the Chef’s Hat Plate.

Tourist Attraction hasn’t been seen in an official trial but McArdle describes her as a neat little filly that has promise.

“Whether she’s ready for this type of race we’re not sure,” McArdle said.

“She’s won a jump-out at Balnarring and she’s won one at home so we’ll have a little crack and see how we go.”

Tourist Attraction is a $15 chance and will be ridden by apprentice Ben Thompson who also has the mount on Grey Street.
