RACE 3          Benchmark 70    3yo         1600M

 NO.7               VAUCLUSE BAY

Vaucluse broke his maiden status last start at Gosford in what can be best described as a strong effort from a horse that looks to have plenty of upside. This is his third run this campaign so he should be cherry ripe to win again. He won at the mile and stays at the journey but finds a different type of race from last time as there looks a few go forward horses which will allow him to have a bunny or two to chase. Nice horse that looks well placed. Pelorus Jack has gone terrific both runs this time in running second at Canterbury before a good win here. They were over 1200m and 1300m respectively and now he steps to the mile. Queen Of Heights and Loveletter who finished second and third behind him last start will race in the second event today so that should help with a guide to the form lines.

RACE 5          Benchmark 72    1400M

 NO.13 OUR BEATNIK

In what looks like an open race I think Our Beatnik finds a perfect race and is sure with any luck to be amongst the major players. He went very good first up when second at Wyong before running in a better quality benchmark 72 race and finished a couple of lengths off the winner after things didn’t go his way early when over racing and after getting a mile back the early efforts just took his dash away. Tommy Berry sticks and I imagine with that run under his belt will race around midfield and if he settles early is sure to find the line. Other leading chances in my mind include High Mist, Hit The Mark, Skillful and Pianissimo.

RACE 7          Benchmark 72  Fillies & Mares 1200M

 NO.7               SLOW BURN

When a horse is a certainty beaten it usually comes up silly odds next start and I usually look elsewhere for the value but not this time. Slow Burn was impressive winning on debut accounting for Cymbalism who was able to win at the big Scone meeting last Saturday and then with a mishap at the barriers ruined his chances when third to Sisken and In Times Of War. Sisken won again in better grade and In Times Of War was narrowly beaten by a handy one in Bonny O’reilly. She has drawn a perfect gate and could lead but I see her getting a good run behind a few speedier types in Ciarlet and Slumber Party. Not easy taking on the older mares but this girl looks a handy one capable of scooting through the grades. Noire is the obvious danger having run second to Slow Burn before coming out and after being ridden a touch quieter was strong in winning.
