Racing in QLD’s heads to the Gold Coast on Wednesday, with a track currently rated a Soft 7. The weather has been favourable for drying conditions so far this week, so I’m doing form based on a Soft 5-6 rated surface. Found 2 races to play today, 1 at value and 1 that looks just too fast!

Race 1

The much-maligned Midweek QLD staying maiden. Personally I don’t mind these races, I find you can nail them down to a limited amount of chances through process of elimination. 3 COLONEL KELLY is the interesting runner for me at $17 & $4.40 His run was ok last start at the Sunny Coast. Trapped wide throughout, he had a bumping duel early in the straight, then balanced up and ran a strong last 200m, suggesting to me the step up in trip will suit. Drawn to get an economical run from gate 2, I think he’s an improver and a blowout chance.  2 KING OF MONACO looks like he has some upside at the trip. Hit the line well first up at Gatton, then was set alight and raced outside the leader in a strong 3YO race at the Sunshine Coast last start. Ridden slightly more conservative here, I think he can be in the finish. The favourite 5 TIZABEE has placed in 6 of 11 starts, and will be in the money again. 1 Brigadier Sam will run the trip right out and is definitely in the mix.

1 SIR DONALD is the BEST BET on the card today. This 3yr old son of I Am Invincible is very quick, and he will be tuned right up to win first up for Michael Nolan. Drawn to lead easily in Gate 3 and with the claim for Rebecca Williams, expect this race to be over in a flash, and we get the cash!
