HAWKESBURY

THURSDAY 18 MAY

RAIL: +4m 1300m-WP- True Remainder                     TRACK: Good

RACE 2          Maiden 1100M

 NO.5               PALOMINO

After 13 months away from the races she went super at Newcastle when looming to win but condition gave out late and she faded to finish second. She will have taken plenty of benefit from that run and is sure to be hitting the line hard. At her previous campaigns she had finished close up against some handy opposition showing the ability is there. The Cheetah looks her main danger having only raced once back in January at Canterbury when a close up third. He’s trialled well and barrier one will be a big asset.

RACE 4          Benchmark 65    1000M

 NO.1               ADJECTIVE

Adjective has been allotted 62.5kg but will carry three kilos less with apprentice jockey Jean Van Overmeire taking the ride. It’s a big weight but he has a big class edge on this lot and as long as he bounces and puts himself handy if not in front he will take a power of running down. He has only won three races in his career with two of them here on his home track and he turns up here off a good strong win. My only worry is 11 months off and he usually improves with a couple of runs under his belt. Her danger is the speedy filly from Newcastle Bonita who has drawn barrier one and will get a gun run.

RACE 6          Class 2 1600M

 NO.4               WAVE REVIEWS

Wave Reviews has only raced once in Australia since arriving from Europe and after meeting with some support firming from $6.5 into $5.5 he looked a little once-paced when finishing 8th beaten 3.4 lengths. A lack of acceleration can often happen with European gallopers but with that run under his belt he should have taken huge improvement. Bowman takes over and his strength on top is an added bonus. A drop in grade will also give him his chance to race a touch closer and use his strength to get the job done.
