Race 3             No.8    Vienna Romance

Before I get onto the horse I think is big odds I concede the favourite New Universe may just be too good especially if trainer Chris Waller is contemplating a Stradbroke start with the son of Darci Brahma. He was very heavily backed at his first Aussie start and he didn’t let the punters down winning in good fashion. That race was 1200m this weekend its 1100m, that race was run at a good tempo while this week’s race looks devoid of speed outside Memes and most importantly last start was on a good track and if the rain comes well………he hasn’t been on a rain affected surface. He might love it and if that’s the case he’ll win but will he love it?

Kawaikini finished second to New Universe last start and is a player again here and in her favour is she has shown a wet track won’t hold any fears.

Righto with all that said I am having a small play on number 8 Vienna Romance who turns up here off a good effort at Gosford over the flying 1000m where things didn’t fall into place as she covered ground before lugging badly around the bend. The winner Test The World won at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in good fashion to give the form some relevance. She was entitled to knock up and finish midfield or worse but not this girl. Once balanced up she really found the line and all this under the impost of 59kgs. Yes this grade is a step up but with 53kgs on her back and the ability to handle a rain affected track I think the $16 at is good enough to have a small early play.

The other one at odds that can run a race is Once More A Lady who was super first up at Wyong before disappointing last start at Scone in a far tougher race.

Race 7             No.13So Willie

This race looks very open as is evidenced with $5.5 freely available for the favourite Moher ahead of Liapari and Careless at $7.

Chris Waller has four runners engaged in the seventh race and that always seems to be fraught with danger as whatever way you go a stablemate pops up and gets you late.

Let’s hope it doesn’t happen this week as I’m having an early play on number 13 So Willie. The son of More Than Ready has returned in good order winning both his runs this campaign and although some punters believe ‘he can’t win again’ not me I’m in the corner of ‘the horse is flying and why can’t he win three in a row’.

It’s a jump in grade from last start having won a benchmark 78 and now facing off in a benchmark 93 but on the flip side he’ll carry 3 ½ kgs less and hopefully with some rain he’ll get a surface to suit. With $10 on offer from I’m having a small play and I’m hoping Tommy Berry can produce a gun ride from a wide barrier.

Race 9             No.9    DAGNY

DAGNY went super first up when winning at Warwick Farm before failing last start. She got into a little trouble but even prior to that she looked to be racing a little flat and not her usual bounce. Her recent trial was very good and with the blinkers being added she looks a good way for punters to finish the afternoon. Tommy Berry is on board and he is riding with plenty of confidence.
