Big Richie Callander’s early plays for Randwick

EARLY PLAYS @ RANDWICK SATURDAY

Sydney’s Saturday races are at Randwick and it’s an early start with the first scheduled to jump at 11.10am EST.

The rail is in the True position and the day is all about the magnificent work done by The Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation.

 Race 4             No.2    So Willie

So Willie was my top pick seven days ago at Rosehill and although he finished fourth he turned in one of the day’s best runs and although they have given him the outside barrier I think he can get the chocolates.

So Willie returned in good order this campaign winning his first two runs and looking a far superior horse to previously before a cracking fourth last week.

He does up 3kg from last week but drops from a benchmark 93 back to a BM85.

The Randwick surface is always a little more forgiving underfoot than Rosehill and that won’t pose any threat to So Willie who handles all surfaces.

So Willie doesn’t need fast run races but a nice genuine tempo would be beneficial and with Signposted and Kingsguard drawn the inside two gates and Pirate Ben in four it should make for a fair tempo for all.

$5 is currently available with www.bluebet.com.au

Supply And Demand for me is his biggest threat coming off a solid fifth in the Scone Cup.

Race 6             No.12In Times Of War

In Times Of War has raced six times for a maiden win and five second placings which can a concern especially her latest two outings when she was in front in the final 100m only to look a fraction timid late.

As a punter, we are often quick to jump and call some horses weak, soft and not wanting to find the line but I am hoping by just riding this filly a fraction quieter she’ll charge at the finishing line.

Make no mistake she has been gunned down by a couple of handy types in Sisken and Bonny O’Reilly who have both gone onto win at their next outing.

She meets Sisken 4kgs better off for a long neck defeat a month ago but that said In Times Of War lea that day and I don’t think that will happen this week. Yuma Desert and Il Mio Destino should come out rolling while Sisken will be looking for a spot near the speed and that’s not including Tennessee Hussy from the inside gate. Tim Clark is riding in dashing form and if he can find a spot for In Times Of War I really think she can unleash and run over them here.

She is around the $3.8 mark around the traps.

Good luck and happy punting!!!
