SANDOWN LADBROKES PARK HILLSIDE June 28

Back to traditional mid-week venue, Hillside, raced here two weeks ago (rail true, was 10m prior to that so into 6m spot for this but they tend to race away from fence and run on). It was a Soft 5 last meeting (and many winners/placegetters back again here), will be Soft 6 and can’t see any change to expected pattern.

Race 1: 9-2-3-5

Intriguing start! Respecting one of debutantes 3 ELITE LEGAC Y off a jumpout. Going 9 BELLA MARTINA, put away after one start behind talented Muraaqeb, has jumped out stylishly to say will run well here. 2 HOLY BLADE was excellent Swan Hill on debut – market said yes, and a rare Weir 2YO winner on debut is a positive sign coming to town. 1 FLYPAST was good on a heavy 8 debut, 5 TATA MADIBA didn’t have any luck first up. 6 ANOTHER DEMON gets blinkers and fitter, so yes, competitive race.

Suggested:  if you must, something 9 BELLA MARTINI $3.80 bet now but many variables here, not much to surprise.

Race 2: 9-1-10-2

Again a race with first starters expected to play a role, primarily 10 TRISCILLA – half to Lucia Valentina off 2 good jumpouts and 8 SHE’S SO HIGH who has also shown ability. Tricky again. 9 SQUAW PEAK was good enough on debut and like stablemate in first put straight away. Has shown up prominently in recent jumpout. Fitness is a key plus for 1 HOLY SEAL who beat older horses on a heavy last time and comes to this right time. Form out of 2 ALJAWZAA Gawler win better than you might think reads. Best 2YO stable of season too.

Suggested: Deep again but happy to stay with team Hawkes and something on 9 SQUAW PEAK $4.80 bet now

Race 3: 9-5-10-14

Reckon this easier to sort. Can back two here, 5 BOORADLEY off the good return win and certainly save on 9 AIRINO after it went pear-shaped at the Valley. You know when you back one that is in barriers has to be vetted and cleared to run then runs as it should have been scratched. That’s him. Slow recovery rate too. Best value 10 EMINENT SON which led when not the intention resuming and won well. 14 EAT DESSERT FIRST was well placed to get the maiden done resuming also with change of tactics (back and chasing) but has always shown better promise.

Race 4: 5-3-1-2

Liked the effort in Saturday grade of 5 FACTS on the Pedrena/Samovare race which favoured that pair by tempo.  Think has plenty of upside. 3 ALMA’S ROSSA through same race wants 1600m and think either of those wins. 1 ZOLANI has The Passage form (ignore Saturday’s failure) and comes in form ready for 1600m. Ditto 2 HUSSY’S GLOW (form that is) but back in drop and I never negative that scenario.

Race 5: 9-2-10-7

The absolute stand-out is 9 YOGI – overcame himself laying in badly to charge through line here two weeks ago and will get to Saturday standard after this. Reckon ends up odds-on despite morning quote. But was keen to tip 2 PASSOVER on Saturday and it’s been saved for this so foolish to ignore the big odds here so backing both. Avoca trial since change of tactics failure was impressive so good gamble alongside the favourite. 10 THE WILLYBE resumed in good style on the heavy and stable has brilliant strike rate. Nothing wrong with the win of 7 SUPER MOVER last time.

Suggested:  Back 9 YOGI $2 bet now, have some saver on 2 PASSOVER $21 bet now at the odds.

Race 6: 7-3-1-10

If Froggie Newitt gets it right on 7 DIAPASON it should atone for race that got away here last time. Previously beat home 3 WHIRLPOOL who then won and has weights measure on it – not that I feel it’s important here. 1 NOELA’S CHOICE gets grade drop and four of five wins on wet ground.  Talking of wet – if wetter 4 BIRDS OF TOKYO right in this. Wide quaddie value in 10 DANZA KUDURO (had winning form before four weeks between runs last time). Forgiving 6 CONCUBINE last time (Zahra wasn’t happy with action).

Suggested: Reckon 7 DIAPASON $2.60 bet now wins this.

Race 7: 9-3-8-2.

Last chance here for 9 DAM READY, back to midweek grade, will have benefitted from first-up pass mark performance and overall form better than these but not much of it winning because has contested better races. 3 RUNSATI has excellent fresh record that is respected here. Best value 8 REMOVAL, just no luck (untested last time) after finding winning form. Not sure inside gate a spoil for 14 KAKANUI but goes in as does 7 CHAPEL ROAD and Weir has another campaign now with ex Stokes Group performer 2 OZI CHOICE.

Race 8: 7-8-13-18

Few friends meeting here from race a fortnight ago but staying though without conviction with 7 GRANDDUKEOFTUSCANY who will be fitter with a 2400m run now and should roll forward for Oliver. 8 KELLSTORM clear danger and winning threat off different formline with stablemate 13 CHEQUERED FLAG who should love this trip and fit with hurdle trials to bolster. Just watch jockey booking as Williams declared for it and 18 RAINDROPS ON ROSES who just missed last time in the 12 SAVVY BANDIT race. And that horse the conduit to Chequered Flag form as well.
