RACE 1

Not much happening in the opening event but there has been some consistent wages since betting opened for 10 Taqdees on debut from the Hayes yard. Beau Mertens rides the 2yo filly by Redoute’s Choice that cost $500k at the Inglis Easter sales.

10 TAQDEES

RACE 2

In what looks a pretty smart open 2yo race there has been plenty of good bets written early on the Allen Browell trained youngster at double figures 5 Star Hills who has started once for an impressive win albeit at Donald. The other 2yo at double figures who has met with money is 3 Bowerman formerly prepared by Michael Freedman now with the Hayes yard. He has raced once running third in the Breeders Plate at Randwick. The 15 La Chica Rosa has been very solid in the early betting. She is first up having raced without luck at her first campaign.

3 BOWERMAN and 5 STAR HILLS

RACE 3

No huge bets but plenty of small bets for the John Sadler trained 9 Brahmos who turns up here on debut. He trialled once publically back in February last year after costing $420k as a yearling. In a recent jump out he looked as though he may improve with the run but the support looks to tell another story.

9  BRAHMOS

RACE 4

Nothing of note but clearly the best supported in the early betting is the solid favourite 3 Summer Glen. The Mick Price trained filly has raced 12 times for just the one win but has finished second a further five times.

3 SUMMER GLEN

RACE 5

Best two backed horses here are the Gai Waterhouse runner 10 Mulinello and the Darren Weir conditioned 4 Sohool. Mulinello had her first Victorian start a month ago at Mornington and raced well when third at Mornington over 2000m so the little freshen up back to the mile looks ideal. Sohool had excuses last start and now jumps to the mile and gets the blinkers back on.

10 MULINELLO and 4 SOHOOL

RACE 6

The Darren Weir 6yo 1 Gun Case has met with early support and now sits clear favourite some two dollars shorter than his closest rival. He drops sharply in grade after having little luck when beaten juts on two lengths behind the inform Ability. Drawn ideally here and the claim of Brandon Stockdale has made him popular with punters.

1 GUN CASE

RACE 7

Not a lot of activity here but three runners seem to have had more support than the others. 3 Azurite, 4 Demons Run and 8 Kellstorm.

Azurite turns up here off a strong win last start here over the same distance and the punters obviously think it’s the right form line as Demons Run ran second. Kellstorm comes through the same race and drops three kilos into this race with Craig Williams taking the reins.

3 AZURITE, 4 DEMONS RUN and 8 KELLSTORM

RACE 8

The punters have settled on two horses 2 Niminypiminy and 5 Smokin’ Bella in the last with both meeting with solid early support. Niminypimny struggles to get the major prize but she is racing in terrific form and turns up here off a super third behind Schism when coming from well back at Flemington. Smokin’ Bella has raced twice this preparation and looked very good winning both races albeit at Ballarat and Bendigo. The 1400m and a big track look ideal for this mare that is low flying.

5 SMOKIN’ BELLA and 2 NIMINYPIMNY
