Bruce Clark’s full preview and best bets for Caulfield

Supido is Bruce’s best bet.

Last metropolitan meeting of the season with Williams to end the brave challenge of Beau Mertens (who started the season as a 3kg claimer) and Weir to set a mark of total winners, city winners, stakes winners, that only he will be able to better in future. Rail back true, it was 10m the last meeting, rated good 5 race morning but the issue today is the wind with forecast 100kmph winds tipped from the north, blowing across the track in the straight basically or they race into it in the 1200m races to the corner. Easy to say cover will be crucial, but at the speed, the wind will be a major contributor, but we don’t know how so.

BEST: Race 8 #7 SUPIDO  $3.4 bet now

VALUE: Race 3 #11 SHAMPORT  $7.5 bet now

Race 1: 1-3-2-6

Would promote 6 DIVINE CHILLS on track with more give but still respecting given its first race of the day and obviously, it will have it is most give. Big query is 1 ROCKETCOMMANDER, new for Lindsay Park but has contested better races than these without disgrace. Not worrying the last win was a heavy 10, well placed after the claim here. 2 FORGERESS nailed 3 SULLIVAN BAY last time and is 2kg better off for that so obviously competitive player again. 4 EVERY FAITH will improve here but needs luck from inside draw and perhaps looking for further than 1200m.

SUGGESTED: Going with class 1 ROCKET COMMANDER.  $4.4 bet now

Race 2: 8-1-9-10

Only two winning hopes here, but making it only one and that is 8 KIWIA to beat 1 CHARLEVOIX (noting a few gear changes but no claim though Williams an asset obviously) but the young horse well into a prep (that’s what Weir’s do) gets 3.5kg and a better run than last time. Charlevoix comes back to 2400m and will be given chance. Place hopes 9 DANDRE (doing good job first prep) and 10 HOT RUBY (holding form).

SUGGESTED: Back 8 KIWIA with confidence  $1.9 bet now

Race 3: 11-1-2-5

I was taken by the mid-week debut of Weir’s 11 SHAMPORT, pretty green, looked like it wanted 1400m, gets that now and like the value offered. 1 NISTAAN resumed in good style also when the condition may have given out. 2 FULLY MAXED was backed and won at the 1000m resuming but doubt the 1400m a bother. 5 SHEER MADNESS didn’t have much luck resuming, its maiden win was at 1400m.

SUGGESTED: Like 11 SHAMPORT to improve off debut.  $7.5 bet now

Race 4: 11-14-1-8

Toughest race of the day.11 WRITTEN ERA had a forgettable autumn in races of better quality and having absolutely no luck. Showed it had the class to measure up so well placed in a BM78 to return. Liked the winning return of 14 SEATTLE BLOOM in Adelaide and building good profile after being well placed. Will need some luck but not much between these BM 78 horses. Have to respect 1 OBERLAND, debuting here for Weir with blinkers off. 8 REMOVAL  has the blinkers off and with any luck in running can find a line here.

SUGGESTED: 11 WRITTEN ERA good prospect in what looks open race.  $5.5 bet now

Race 5: 9-4-1-15

Much of formative assessment for this race confused by the 5 WINDBERN knock ‘em down here a fortnight ago with a raft of unluckiest behind. So don’t know what to do with that race. Going value and 9 PENTHOUSE  KITTEN, who will need luck from inside draw, loved its win Pakenham finding the line. 4 SPANISH REEF will make its own luck and gets a claim that on paper will suit but just not convinced B Stockdale form at moment. 1 ALL OUT OF LOVE will improve after a luckless run last time as will 15 SEATTLE PARK.

SUGGESTED: Something at the odds 9 PENTHOUSE  KITTEN  $15 bet now

Race 6: 2-5-14-6

Not much between these 3YO fillies on straight form but if 2 O’RACHAEL runs to Kiwi G1 form (and proves it no fluke) will be the one to beat. Seems that the dryer ground is also to advantage.5 IFNOT NOW WHEN hasn’t won for some time but remains racing well and is competitive again. 14 SWEET PERFUME resumed for Mertens and looks to have come up well off the jumpouts.6 MISSVESPER has pace and senior rider takes over.

SUGGESTED: 2 O’RACHAEL is better than these on the form.  $3.2 bet now

Race 7: 8-3-2-6

Yes 3 REVOLVING DOOR should have beaten 2 NIKITAS here a fortnight ago and jockey changes point to revenge but racing isn’t always like that. 8 WAYANKA comes through a same race and can make its case it should have been in the finish, now gets Williams. 6 ENIGMAN is better than shown here a fortnight ago.

SUGGESTED: Liking the value 8 WAYANKA.  $4.8 bet now

Race 8: 7-10-12-1

A hint of spring and better races but 7 SUPIDO will win. Looked as though would improve off tradesmanlike return when was good with matching sectionals.  10 CHOCOLATE HOLIC will most likely need this but sure to measure up. 12 ABILITY has that and needs to take that to weight-for-age here. 1 LANKAN RUPEE seems to have prepped up with a hint of finding old and best form and money suggests will. In wide quaddies would be putting in 11 and 13.

SUGGESTED: Stay with 7 SUPIDO.  $3.4 bet now

Race 9: 11-16-2-5

So let’s end the season with premiership winning jockey Craig Williams and 11 COSMIC LIGHTS, well placed this grade after pleasurable recent efforts. 16 GALAXY RAIDER can win but even Williams has left the ship (nothing wrong with Nikita Beriman and you can’t ride them all) but although can win, its racing pattern is the reason there are not more 1’s next to its name. 2 LUCKY PADDY is the value and ready to fire after three runs in. 5 PORTION CONTROL got the favors last time but capitalized on good form in a long preparation.

SUGGESTED: 11 COSMIC LIGHTS to take us out for the city season.  $4.4 bet now
