Gai Waterhouse is eyeing a Magic Millions win with Arbeitsam but will not pigeonhole the versatile gelding after his win at Rosehill.

The $3.70 favourite raced away from the field from the outset on Saturday and held off a late challenge from The Pharoah ($7.50) to win by a length in the three-year-olds plate over 1400m.

Reach For Heaven ($4) was 1-1/4 lengths further behind in third.

Having narrowly missed a victory over 1800m at the same track a fortnight ago, his trainer is buoyed by the options ahead.

Waterhouse says the focus will turn to an extended autumn, beginning with the Magic Millions in January in either the Cup or the Trophy.

“He’s an improving type, a lovely sort of horse,” Waterhouse said.

Co-trainer Adrian Bott agrees the horse is “certainly a very strong miler” and could extend past 1800m.

“It certainly opens up a few more options,” he told Sky Racing.

Waterhouse also praised jockey Tim Clark, who cemented his third place in the Sydney jockeys’ premiership with the win aboard Arbeitsam.

“There are only a handful of good front-running jockeys in NSW and Tim Clark is one of them,” she said.

The victory on Saturday was Arbeitsam’s third over 1400m and fourth overall from his 11 starts.
