Summer Passage ready for Melbourne spring

New Zealand colt Summer Passage has pleased his trainers in a barrier trial at Te Teko ahead of his Melbourne spring campaign.

Trained by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, Summer Passage won the Group One Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie in March and finished second to Invader in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick.

He ran midfield in Tuesday’s 1000m-heat under champion NZ apprentice Sam Weatherley.

“Andrew and I were delighted,” O’Sullivan told NZ Racing Desk.

“Sam rode him quietly in the hope that he would settle, which he did and it was a lovely trial.

“He’ll be on the plane to Melbourne in the middle of the month and the idea is to trial him over there at the end of the month and then into the Danehill Stakes.”

Summer Passage was one of five Group One winners for his sire Snitzel last season.

He will be aimed at the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington with connections looking to make him commercially attractive to breeders on both sides of the Tasman.
