Group One-winning filly Yankee Rose is the favourite to win the Queensland Horse of the Year award.

This year will be a changing of the guard with the now-retired Buffering winning for the past five seasons.

Nominations for the Queensland Racing awards were released this week and Yankee Rose, who is trained at Caloundra by David Vandyke, has been nominated in two categories.

The winner of the Group One Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick and third in the Group One Cox Plate, Yankee Rose is one of five nominations for Queensland Horse of the Year.

The others are Capital Gain, who won the Group One J J Atkins Stakes, Magic Millions Classic winner Houtzen, Tattersall’s Cup winner Rudy, and Most Important who won the Brisbane summer triple crown.

Yankee Rose is also nominated in the three-year-old section along with Order Again, Crack Me Up, Niccanova, Dream’s A Plenty and Savanna Amour.

Houtzen and Capital Gain will battle out the two-year-old category along with Ours To Keep, Pardoe, St Patricks Day and Cellargirl.

Most Important, Rudy, Cylinder Beach, Col ‘N’ Lil and Monsieur Gustave have been nominated for best older horse.
