Group One-winning jockey Paul Hammersley has taken only one ride at Doomben for his comeback after five weeks off with injury.

He will ride the Bruce Brown-trained last-start winner Khaleesi in the Saturday’s Class Six Plate (1200m).

Hammersley hasn’t ridden since the middle of July after breaking his big toe in a barrier accident.

“You wouldn’t believe it. I am involved in one of the most dangerous professions in the world and I break a big toe,” Hammersley said.

“A couple of people laughed when I told them. But take it from me it does hurt.”

“I have been able to work on my fitness and ride work in the past fortnight so I am right to go,” Hammersley said.

“I will be looking for more rides next week and build up from there.”

Brown is still tossing up whether to return to Sydney with Khaleesi who weakened after leading in a 1200m-race on a soft Randwick track in May.

The mare has won six races and has a good strike rate at the Doomben 1200m.

“I will have to see how she comes up after Saturday’s race. If she wins the better option might be to head down to Sydney with her,” Brown said.

“The last time she was there she struck a wet track and that didn’t suit her.”

Khaleesi holds a special place for Brown because she is a granddaughter of Emma’s Affair who Brown trained to win four of her 13 starts including the 1995 $1 million Pelican Waters Classic at Caloundra.
