My Tagoson wins Highway Plate at Randwick

Corey Brown’s loss was Hugh Bowman’s gain as Sydney’s premier jockey guided My Tagoson to a Highway Plate victory at Randwick.

The five-year-old gelding, trained in Scone by Rodney Northam, improved on his second placing on Highway debut at Rosehill last month with a 2-1/4 length win over Last Try Wins.

Bowman, who replaced Brown after he was suspended last week, was riding My Tagoson ($4.20) for the first time but had already formed a good opinion of the horse.

“He was a bit of an eye-catcher in the Highway a couple of weeks ago, which I actually won (on Prada Miss).

“He was a good second behind me and with Corey Brown suspended I was able to secure the ride and the horse went really well for me.

“I think he had a class edge on his rivals.”

My Tagoson pulled clear at the 200m to leave the Brett Cavanough-trained Last Try Wins ($5.50) in his wake.

Chadana ($11) was third, a half-head further back.
