Overshare leads throughout at the Valley

A fit and more mature Overshare has claimed some all important black type for his owners with an all-the-way win at Moonee Valley.

Overshare jumped straight to the front in Saturday’s Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) to record a comfortable win.

Ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Overshare was easy in the betting from $7.50 out to $9 before scoring by a length from the heavily supported $3 favourite Bandipur, with outsider Sunquest ($41) a neck away third.

Overshare was returning to Melbourne for the first time since running in the Blue Diamond Prelude and Preview earlier in the year.

He was successful in a Canterbury maiden in June before running fourth to Menari in The Rosebud at Rosehill on August 12.

“The difference between this time and the last time he was here was he wanted to get a bit keen,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said.

“That was young nerves but today he was a lot quieter in the gates and Dwayne gave him a peach of the ride.

“It’s great for Spendthrift Farm because he’s now a Group winner.

“He’s another colt that will go off to stud and that’s what it’s all about for them.”

Overshare is entered for Group One races in coming months including the Golden Rose in Sydney and the Caulfield Guineas.

Hawkes said the stable wanted to get Saturday’s victory under the belt before looking any further.

Dunn said a lot of work had gone into getting Overshare to relax after being taught to jump and run as an early two-year-old.

“In his last couple of runs down here he overdid it against some good horses,” Dunn said.

“It was against him at the end because he would over do it but today there was moderate tempo and he kicked well off the corner.”
