Williams unlikely for Houtzen gallop

Star jockey Craig Williams is expected to miss riding Magic Millions winner Houtzen in a gallop at Moonee Valley because of a cut finger.

Houtzen is scheduled to work at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning ahead of her return in Saturday’s Group Two McEwen Stakes.

Williams had an accident at home on Sunday before attending the Scobie Breasley Medal night, at which he won the major award.

“I don’t think I can make it. I nearly cut my finger off yesterday so I’m out of action until seeing how I go for Wednesday,” Williams told RSN927 on Monday.

As well as the Scobie Breasley Medal, Williams was also presented with the Roy Higgins Medal for winning the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership.

Williams is booked to ride the Toby Edmonds-trained Queensland filly Houtzen at a light weight in Saturday’s weight-for-age McEwen Stakes.
