Ron Quinton galloper returns Cobalt positive

Racing NSW released information relating to trainers Ron Quinton and Gordon Yorke and the detection of cobalt in Boss Lane (Quinton) and Follow Through (Yorke).

Stewards’ Release – Cobalt Detection

Racing NSW Stewards advise of the following details in respect to the detection of cobalt in race day samples.

Trainer Mr Ron Quinton – Boss Lane
Racing NSW Stewards have been provided with the certified findings from two official racing laboratories confirming the detection of cobalt at a level above that excepted by AR178C(1)(l) of 100ug/l in the pre-race urine sample taken from Boss Lane prior to racing in Race 7–Missile Stakes conducted at the Royal Randwick meeting on Saturday 5 August 2017. On Thursday 17 August 2017, Racing NSW Stewards advised Mr Quinton of the irregularity, which was confirmed yesterday with certification that the reserve portion of the sample was found to contain a level of cobalt above that excepted by AR178C(1)(l). Stewards have ordered the analysis of feed and supplements taken from Mr Quinton’s stable.

During the course of the investigation Racing NSW Stewards have taken some 35 out of competition samples from horses trained by Mr Quinton to endeavour to ensure that horses presented to race are done so in accordance with the Rules of Racing.

An inquiry into the analyst’s findings will be conducted at a time and date to be fixed.

Trainer Mr Gordon Yorke – Follow Through
Racing NSW Stewards have been provided with the certified findings from two official racing laboratories confirming the detection of cobalt at a level above that excepted by AR178C(1)(l) of 100ug/l in the pre-race urine sample taken from Follow Through prior to racing in Race 2–The Bidfood Class 1 Handicap conducted at the Grafton meeting on Thursday 13 July 2017. On Thursday 10 August 2017, Racing NSW Stewards advised Mr Yorke of the irregularity, which was confirmed yesterday with certification that the reserve portion of the sample was found to contain a level of cobalt above that excepted by AR178C(1)(l). Stewards have ordered the analysis of feed and supplements taken from Mr Yorke’s stable.

An out of competition sample taken from Follow Through prior to racing at Gosford on 17 August 2017 confirmed a level of cobalt below 100ug/l.

An inquiry into the analyst’s findings will be conducted at a time and date to be fixed.
