New aid for punters from Racing NSW

Punters have a new tool to accurately analyse races and the performance of each horse via a new App developed by Racing NSW.

The App allows punters to study detailed breakdowns of race information, collected 50 times per second via the Swiss Timing Horse Positioning System.

An average of 20 poles, nine metres in height, have been erected on 22 racecourses in NSW which contain a wireless base station.

A transmitter is installed in each horse’s saddlecloth which relays the information to the poles and the technology is used to create a 3D re-enactment of the race.

The data is collated in the App to display race times, individual sectionals, distance travelled, top speeds and positioning for every horse in the race allowing punters to assess the performance of each horse in new ways and from multiple angles.

“Punters Intel is a game-changer and provides the ultimate tool to access vital information of a horse’s performance and view dynamic 3D simulated replays of the race, control camera angles, speed and playback options as well as select data to be viewed throughout the race itself,” Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said.

Among the information it produces is a sectional time and race time for every 200m for every horse, not just the lead horse, and the comparative distance travelled by each horse in a race.

V’landys said the App was developed with consultation from a variety of punters and Racing NSW would welcome feedback from users via the Punters Intel Facebook page.

The Punters Intel App is available free via iTunes for Apple devices and Google play for Android and from Racing NSW website for PCs.
