2 BEACON has been kept fresh between his two runs and from gate one here looks to get the perfect run. Hugh Bowman takes over and with a couple of going forward, horses Beacon will enjoy a soft run. 3 MARISHKA was good in winning her on debut albeit after getting the right run. I think there is a few here that would have also got the job done in that maiden race. With only five runners they look the clear top two.

5 SEXY EYES from the Waterhouse and Bott stable has shown good ability in her two career starts while still looking new. The top two should make sure the tempo is fair and as long as she jumps cleanly I think Sexy Eyes can camp on their backs and be far too classy in the run home. 3 ISTRIA has trialled well leading into her first up run and from a perfect barrier is sure to get a good run so she must be kept safe.

5 WOMAN has looked good at the trials earlier this year and again recently in two hit outs. She lines against a couple of nice horses trying to put their hand up as city horse’s but they haven’t yet which leaves the door open for a lovely filly impeccably bred by Frankel out of former star mare More Joyous. The only other winning hopes are the top three 1 FIFTH AFFAIR, 2 MYSTIC EMPIRE and 3 LAUSSEL.

Tricky little race but I’ve settled on 1 HONG QIGONG who was very good first up behind Faeger and will appreciate the extra 150m of today’s race. His appearance here first up suggested he would benefit greatly with that run under his belt. 7 PARET is the interesting runner for mine on debut who has finished well back at both his trials but I think has trialled well. If the speed here is ok expect to see him hitting the line hard at odds.

If No.4 IN TIMES OF WAR has to luck in the first 100m I think she’ll be too classy and run over her main or perhaps only real rival 1 NICTOCK who has won six of his seven career starts. Nictock will be on-pace and will a kick but I’m hoping with 5 VOILIER and even more so 8 BRIGHT FUTURE engaged it will mean Nictock won’t be able to walk in front. In Times Of War off the TV screen from her trials looks to have filled out a bit which hopefully means she is a little stronger.

6 PIRACY has really matured this preparation with a second and two very strong wins. He probably just needs a touch of luck early to find a spot on-pace and he’ll be hard to beat. 2 SMART AMELIA is having her first start since joining the Chris Waller stable and must be respected off good form and two very solid trials. A fair tempo is sure to help her as she will be back off the speed. The other players are 7 ALL FROM SCRAP, 9 VIENNA ROMANCE and 4 CENTRO SUPERIOR.

1 FORTENSKY is finding it hard to win having run second at four of his past five starts with the other run being a close up third. He will roll forward and will again give a great sight and hopefully hold on. 11 MAHALANGUR is a major player coming off a two length defeat in the group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality and will be in this for a long way but for mine is under the odds at around $2.4. 6 SAMBRO comes through the same race where he was disappointing but back to the grade and from barrier one is capable of improving sharply. Other winning hopes look to be 5 WINE BUSH and 7 LITTLE MISS BROWN.

11 TOKEN OF LOVE is flying and deserves a city win and with 52kg on her back here and from a soft draw she’ll only need luck with clear galloping room to take some holding out. 2 ESTIKHRAAJ loves Canterbury and with an even tempo here he’ll get his chance to run the race again coming to the turn. The other winning chances are 1 MULTIFACETS who drops in grade and 3 ALMOST COURT who has been very impressive winning his three runs since coming to Australia albeit against moderate opposition. He is the stablemate to my top pick Token Of Love so the money trail will be interesting.
