Trapeze Artist wins Group One Golden Rose

Trapeze Artist, the outsider of two runners for trainer Gerald Ryan, has caused an upset in winning the Group One Golden Rose.

Sent out a $41 chance but as much as $91 was bet at Rosehill, Trapeze Artist overcame the widest draw to claim the $1 million race at Rosehill.

“I got on the back of Menari which was ideal from the bad gate but had to come off his back because i was travelling too good.

“I was confident i was the winner a long way from home that’s for sure,”winning rider Tye Angland said.

It was a welcome good news story out of the Golden Rose for Angland who said luck had eluded previously in this race.

“I was deep throughout on Scissor Kick a few years back when Hallowed Crown beat me a lip so its good to get the good luck today,”Angland said with a smile on his face.

Trainer Gerald Ryan then surprised many in attendance when he said the plan is to back the Snitzel colt up next week in the Epsom handicap.

“I said to Bert (Vieira) the owner if he was to run well today i’d like him to have a serious think about the Epsom.

“He will only carry 48.5kg and I am sure he will relish the quick back up” Ryan added.

Champagne Cuddles ($17) came from last to finish second with Trapeze Artist’s stablemate and $2.40 favourite Menari taking the minor placing.
