Race 1

1 – 2 – 8 – 4

On paper and in the betting it suggests it’s a two horse race between 1 Envy Of All and 2 Demerara. 1 Envy Of All is having her first start for Kris Lees and has trialled well on two occasions. The form around her first preparation has held up well. 2 Demerara was good winning at Gosford a fortnight ago to make it two from two but does face her stiffest test to date. The only other hope looks to be 8 Palmateer who showed enough on debut three weeks ago to suggest she can improve.

Race 2

5 – 6 – 11 – 1

A race without much tempo which I am hoping will allow 5 French Tune to muster early and find a position either in front or perhaps outside of 11 Iowa. 5 French Tune was solid on debut back in February and her two trials this time in have been solid and typical Gai Waterhouse hit outs. 6 Poetic Charmer is drawn awkwardly but if he gets luck he is sure to be in the money. In his two runs to date he hasn’t been beaten far by two pretty smart horses in Viridine and Beau Geste. Chris Waller’s pair look the next best 11 Iowa and 1 Balearic.

Race 3

1 – 8 – 3 – 6

Without showing any disrespect it looks a moderate city event. 1 Wine Bush has only been fair in his two runs this campaign but if there is a day he is going to win another race this must surely be it. He has only won once in 15 starts and that was a listed event but it was a while ago now. This is a simple case of one last chance and I mean one last chance. 8 Know How has been racing well and gets his chance to day.

Race 4

1 – 9 – 8 – 2

It looks a nice race for 1 Awoke even with the impost of 60kgs. She has come back in good order with a win and two placings in better grade events. Her latest trial was a bit weird but on race form she will be hard to toss. 9 Midnight Delight has no weight and from a good draw so must be given some prospects on beating her stablemate.  The horses that look over the odds here to me are 2 Alliterate who has been building her fitness with three runs over unsuitable trips now jumps to 1500m and gets barrier one so look for big improvement and at $31 looks value. 8 Think Like A Bird was good winning two runs back before doing things wrong and luck eluding her last start at Canterbury. At double figure odds she is capable.

Race 5

8 – 7 – 5 – 2

Another race with several chances but if 8 In Times Of War gets the right run I think she can finish over the top of them. She was nosed out first up at Canterbury but she had work then come out and chase. If she begins well and then allow 2 Diddums and 3 Pomelo to push her into a tagging position she should have petrol left at the business end. 7 Gibraltar Girl is another who will appreciate a strong tempo.

Race 6

3 – 1 – 7 – 4

Looks an open race and that is why we have put six in the quadrella.

3 Invincibella is first up and although she got up to 2200m last preparation as a 3yo she showed she is capable of sprinting when fresh. Her recent trial showed she is forward enough for today’s test. 1 My True Love is first up and although drawn wide she looks capable of rolling forward and if she finds the top she may prove hard to get past. The chances don’t finish there.

Race 7

11 – 12 – 2 – 10

11 Mapmaker drops back 300m here and returns to midweek racing suggesting he must be a major player. From a perfect gate I think he will either lead or sit on 2 Fortensky and be hard to toss. 12 Mariquita has been low flying and will be coming hard late here. If you can make up ground she is the one that will run those up front down.

Race 8

8 – 12 – 4 – 2

Looks a race with plenty of early tempo that should suit those camped behind the speed. 8 Cellarman was very good in winning at Gosford two months back before being disqualified for being ineligible. He has had a recent trial when allowed to cruise around for this assignment. 12 Gaulois is lightly raced and looks pretty handy finishing in the placings at all his five runs. Only little query is whether he may appreciate the sting out of the track.
