Bruce Clark’s full Mooney Valley preview

MOONEE VALLEY Friday September 29

Grand Final eve and group 1 racing at The Valley under lights. Could it get any better? Yes, well a few winners would help. Moreira is in town, rail out 4m and in perfect shape. Leaning slightly towards on-pace horses but monitor as the meeting plays out,not expdcting any significant bias.

BEST BET: Race 5 #4 STAR EXHIBIT

BEST VALUE Race 6 #11 HEATHERLY

Race 1: 1-3-9-4

MOREIRA to hit the ground running here with well-placed KOBAYASHI, speedy, too speedy into the wind at Caulfield in tougher race. Likewise CORUSCATE finds easier assignment and has trialled win. OVER EXPOSURE finds tougher race than intimidating debut while MURAAQEB is winner here and will just need luck from inside draw.

Suggested: Start with KOBAYASHI.

Race 2: 8-12-2-5

LABUAN STAR should get good trail here.  Is graduating through grades nicely in typical Weir fashion. MILES OF KRISHNAN has tricky draw but sure to run well fresh off form card to date. 2 RUETTIGER was good this grade and track two runs back. SEBRING SUN is respected fresh.

Suggested: Fit and in-form LABUAN STAR way to go.

Race 3: 1-4-3-5

At set weights, and on ability at the very least, this is all made to order for HOUTZEN, just a fair pass resuming, but that was much tougher test than this. INVINCIBLE STAR was only 3.8 lens off her in the Magic Millions and though hasn’t been seen since, has trialled well.

Suggested: If you like the shorts, you take them boldly here with HOUTZEN.

Race 4: 4-6-10-12

SUPET MAXI was nailed by a good one resuming and beat home Labuan Star who we like in race 2. Going to ride the speed here with main danger SUPER TOO who on a day of fast times broke Randwick  track record last time. MADEENATY will also race forward and reckon Valley suits. BALANCING ACT resumes and is track winner.

Suggested: Work around the two Supers.

Race 5: 4-1-6-2

Staying with STAR EXHIBIT who had a spin around here without the jockey when well backed in the Dato Tan Chin Nam. Going to win a good race the spring but this will do. TAVAGO won 2nd-up last preparation and did enough resuming in the Makybe Diva. FOUNDATION was unlucky last time and improving. Expecting Jon Snow to be more competitive now.

Suggested: keen on Star Exhibit.

Race 6: 3-7-11-1

Stables expected more of LIZZIE L’AMOUR first Aussie run but pulled up with atrial fibulation. G1 winner and had trialled well prior. I AM A STAR is well placed under the conditions here and winner over the trip here last time here. Value in SMART AS YOU THINK as the distances increase. Have never caught HELL OR HIGHWATER but can’t deny form.

Suggested: LIZZIE L’AMOUR at the odds

Race 7: 11-9-5-13

Terrific race as you’d expect with many winning chances. Going HEATHERLY to turn it around on RUSSIAN REVOLUTION but tactics from draws for key runners important here. SHEIDEL is the one least disadvantaged and probably gets the best run. Hard to deny SHE WILL REIGN on the minimum and with some versatility. That said chances MALGUERRA and VOODOO LAD.

Suggested: Tough race but HEATHERLY at odds with in or D Lane up.

Race 8: 6-3-4-7

Forgiving TOGA PICTA for Flemington failure. Expecting sharp improvement. SHOWTIME should control his chances on speed here and looks suited to 1600m. MASCULINO won well in easier race last time but on upward spiral. SALSAMOR is another improving through the greades.

Suggested: TOGA PITA in another open race.

QAUDDIE:

1-2-4-6-9

3-7

2-3-5-9-11-13

2-3-4-6-7-9

$180 for 50%
