Another Queensland win for Waugh

Wyong trainer Kim Waugh’s formula of making lightning visits to Queensland again has paid off, with Supreme Effort scoring an easy win on the Sunshine Coast.

Waugh has been a regular visitor to Queensland for more than two decades, mainly in the winter but has recently sent some of her team north for one-off runs, and generally with success.

Her previous Queensland runner Oxford Poet won at Doomben in late July when ridden by Damian Browne and Waugh was quick to book him for Supreme Effort.

Supreme Effort ($2.60) scored by a length to Man of His Word ($12) in the Coolum Caprice Open Handicap on Saturday, with Beckham ($18) a neck further back in third.

Waugh did not make the trip to the Sunshine Coast but sent plenty of instructions for the 1200m race.

“Someone apparently told her it was school holidays and the traffic would be bad. But I had the colours and instructions good and early,” Browne said.

“Supreme Effort had a bit on them and unfortunately I think he’s heading straight back to Wyong.”

Man Of His Word is also heading south, first to Sydney then Melbourne.

“We will leave in about three weeks for the end of the Sydney carnival and then see what we can pick up in Melbourne,” trainer Bruce Hill said.

“He would have run a very fast final sectional today and it shows he’s spot on for the trip.”
