English horse Marmelo is a firming Melbourne Cup favourite with the TAB taking a $30,000 bet at that price.

The Hughie Morrison-trained Marmelo displaced last year’s winner Almandin at the top of the market on Sunday and has been well supported since.

He will be ridden by Hugh Bowman in Tuesday’s Cup with the star jockey yet to register a win in Australia’s most famous race.

Almandin, to be ridden by Frankie Dettori, is the $9 second favourite to give owner Lloyd Williams his sixth Cup win.
