Gingernuts continues recovery from injury

Gingernuts has left the Werribee Veterinary Clinic to continue his rehabilitation at a nearby farm after an operation to repair a broken pastern.

A Group One winner on both sides of the Tasman, the popular New Zealander suffered the injury on the way to the barriers for the Emirates Stakes at Flemington on November 11 for which he was the pre-post favourite.

Michael Dee immediately jumped off and helped keep the horse calm while he was attended to on the track.

Te Akau Racing tweeted the good news on Monday.

“GINGERNUTS’ update!! Great news to report today that Jerry has been discharged from hospital to a specialist rehab farm nearby. The team at Werribee was world-class & together with his owners, we will remain indebted to them always for helping save our special boy” Te Akau said.

Gingernuts is expected to spend a month at the rehabilitation facility before he can be transported back to David Ellis’ Te Akau property in New Zealand.
