My Giuliano heads to Stayers Cup

Tough gelding My Giuliano has earned himself a chance in the $1 million Magic Millions Stayers Cup with his third win in a row at Doomben.

My Giuliano ($2.80) charged home along the rails to score by a long neck to stablemate The Rumour File ($3.10) in the Hamilton Hotel Handicap (2200m) on Saturday, with another three-quarters of a length to Anton En Avant.

My Giuliano is one of the horses to have won nine metropolitan races in Queensland for trainer Chris Waller since he opened a Gold Coast stable in August.

The gelding has won more than $140,000 in his six Brisbane starts and is starting to get big weights.

Stable manager Paul Shailer says My Giuliano will probably be set for the Magic Millions Stayers Cup on January 13.

“He has been very honest and is holding his form well. It looks an ideal race for him on his home track,” he said.

Shailer paid tribute to jockey Michael Cahill, who did not go around a horse to win on My Giuliano.
