Facts about the inaugural $1 million The Showdown

* named after Australian champion and Victorian-based stallion Showdown who stood at Stockwell Stud between 1966 and his retirement in 1983

* Showdown sired 46 stakes race winners, 13 at Group One level, including Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond, Derby and Oaks winners

* The $1 million Showdown for two-year-olds will be run over 1200m on the fifth annual Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday at Caulfield

* run exclusively for progeny of VOBIS Sires’ nominated stallions

* there are 54 VOBIS Sires’ nominated for The Showdown in 2019

* all eligible horses aiming at The Showdown must be nominated for Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold

* expectations are between 800 and 900 yearlings will be eligible to compete

* a $500,000 race for three-year-old progeny of VOBIS Sires’ nominated stallions will be run in 2020
