Track experience to help Paquirri

Trainer Gary Moore hopes previous experience of the Gold Coast track can help Paquirri’s bid to earn a berth in the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic.

Paquirri will need to win Saturday’s Two-Year-Old Handicap (1100m) at the Gold Coast to make the field for the Magic Millions Classic a week later.

The colt was a strong second in a three-way photo finish at the Gold Coast two weeks ago.

Moore felt he should have gone close to winning after he got back further than expected over the 900m course.

He feels Paquirri will be better at Saturday’s 1100m and for the run on the track.

“He wanted to get out on the corner but he did hit the line well,” Moore said.

“He should be in the finish again and Michael Walker’s back to ride him.”

Paquirri has form around Millions second favourite Jonker having run third to him at Newcastle at his first start.

“We put winkers on him after the Newcastle run and they will stay on,” Moore said.

“He seems to appreciate racing in them.”

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Terminology, who finished fourth on debut in the Wyong race, also needs to win on Saturday to get a Classic start.

“We’re happy with her,” Bott said.

“It’s the last roll of the dice and there’s some nice types in there but hopefully we can pull it off.”
