FLEMINGTON Saturday January 13

With rain falling in Melbourne on Friday, no need for irrigation and the early good 3 rating will see a perfect track one would think come Saturday. Excellent meeting, full of deep form. So while not getting too carried away with the buzz of Magic Millions, I like this as a betting meeting.

BEST BET: race 3 #2 SAYED

BETS VALUE: Race 7 #9 PURE PRIDE

Race 1: 9-4-2-6

Off the back of Wodonga trial and nice jumpout (beating home TRAIN THE BRAVE) the early money points to NASAAYIM as the one to beat. TEMPLAR was good on debut, drifted in betting bit hit line with encouragement failing to get past AL DORAMA who was also on debut. PHONEME showed ability in Flemington jumpout.

SUGGESTED: Hard to play definitively here. Something on TEMPLAR to improve off debut.

Race 2: 1-4-3-6

HOWARD BE THYE NAME is facing a task against key dangers SECOND BULLET who had its chance behind GOLDEN MANE last time as they have bother claimed to 5kg and 7kg away but I thought his run at The Bool with 62.5kg showed he was just about ready to find winning form again. BONDEIGER backs up form a misjudged effort last Saturday, maybe that’s just him though, I thought he gave away too much start in a slowly run race. Down in the weights here and can figure.

SUGGESTED: Bit of class with HOWARD BE THY NAME.

Race 3: 2-5-1-3

SAYED won first up last campaign (BM65) over 1850 to start a brilliant campaign. Has prepped up well in Sydney with two good trials and might just be the horse going somewhere. THE CHAIRMAN and MASTER OF ARTS both ran well enough resuming I thought and both suited Flemington 1700m. Can’t ever ignore the consistency of JAQUINOT BAY, just can’t break through.

SUGGESTED: Like SAYED first up.

Race 4: 1-3-11-4

Good race but think the addition of blinkers for TWITCHY FRANK are significant after first defeat at Sandown last time, wasn’t disgraced and looks suited to Flemington 1400m. But this is deep race with five last start winners showing promise. SHOKORA graduated from the provincials to mid-weeks in great style last time. Another who will like the Flemington 1400m. ZELSIGNORET ran in the twitchy Frank race and got too far back. Is the value here. TAGREEDA is doing nothing wrong.

SUGGESTED: Staying with TWITCHY FRANK.

Race 5: 5-6-2-1

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have two legitimate hopes here in SALSAMOR who resumes (at 1400m here – ran 2nd Sale 1200m fresh up last time in) and made quick progression, while MONTASER has only had the two runs and looks loaded with potential. But for this race happy to go with CRYSTAL SPIRIT now out to 1400m on a quick back-up. INDIAN THUNDER had too much to do here in tempo related race last time. MURAAHIB ran as the market predicted resuming but was conspicuous late. Respecting.

SUGGESTED: CRYSTAL SPIRIT on top, another deep race.

Race 6: 4-11-13-3

Almost impossible. Sticking with PRAVRO who saluted for us with a brilliant Williams ride to squeeze through at Caulfield. Different scenario up the straight for in-form apprentice Spain but like it drawn out and covered up for late burst. BELIEVING should be ready after two runs in. Another to look for late. DOC’S HERO did enough resuming and also drawn out a plus I believe. I’M TELLING YA has run well up the straight in the past excusing the Standish run in company too tough for it. Was a BM70 straight winner 4 runs back. Also drawn out.

SUGEGSTED: Wide in quaddie, stick with PRAVRO.

Race 7: 9-3-7-11

Best value of the day here with another favourite of mine PURE PRIDE. Like him resuming at 1400m, that suits. Need things to go his way given his racing pattern which means his record is just 2/19 but he’s a better horse than that. Just think this race shapes up well for it.  DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR is the fool proof way to go. Makes own luck, is in form and obvious danger. LITE’N IN MY VEINS should be ready, had to do some chasing behind in form OZI CHOICE last time at 3rd run back. Will be a player. NIKITAS missed out on the Gold Coast but suited down in weights here.

SUGGESTED: Open luck goes with PURE PRIDE.

Race 8: 1-4-7-9

Giving THERMAL CURRENT another chance back from 1200m to the 1100m here.  BENZ a big danger. Was able to win the Zeditave Stakes first up last year, that would be good enough for this. KEN’S DREAM is back as a gelding and was very good at the Valley resuming. INVINCIBLE AL is better placed at Flemington and gets Michelle Payne back who has good record on the horse.

SUGGESTED: Last chance for THERMAL CURRENT.

Race 9: 5-12-6-15

MOONLOVER has run into two talents last couple and would think running along Flemington 1400m suits. SHARING will give a start but was good chasing SOHO RUBY last time. Best value is PEARL DE VERE through the same race and gave a big start.

SUGGESTED: MOONLOVER will look the winner.

QUADDIE:

1-3-4-7-11-13-16

3-7-9

2-3-4-7-9-11

7-6-12-15
