Race 1: 5-7-1-3
Thought I’d be starting Weir (LIPSTICK LOVER) v Lindsay Park (HE’S THE BOSS) again but have landed on VIKING RAID (Godolphin) in interesting opener. It was good 1300m fresh and doubt 1600m any issue here. Seems to have upside. Gear changes on both main rivals, Lipstick Lover with blinkers again as wore in Queensland and He’s The Boss with winkers who was ok resuming.
SUGGESTED: VIKING RAID has a future.
Race 2: 15-3-9-6
SWEET MICHIEF resumes here. Went from Mildura Maiden to the Oaks (including a 3rd Pinot at Flemington 1800m) in first campaign. Like it resuming here at 1400m on big track. MERRIMEN is in first campaign for Weir and was unlucky at Swan hill. Like Weir chasing city maiden straight away here. Good value. ROSSMAN was sound on debut. Interesting runner COCHATA (Williams aboard0 was 433 1st markets, as low as $8 race morning – private Cranbourne jumpouts!!!
SUGGESTED: SWEET MISCHIEF top pick but will have something MERRIMEN at $10.
Race 3: 4-1-6-2
Liked the run at 1200m AMORTENTIA at The Valley and have to think 1400m now suits. GO DOWN was scratched from weekend for this and capped a consistent campaign with last start win on home track (Bendigo – where races best). HECTOPASCAL is a bit of a lower grade drifter for Weir, but in the mix here.
SYGGESTED: Keen this is right race for AMORTENTIA.
Race 4: 2-7-8-1
Very keen here on SHERLOCK HOLMES resuming at 2400m and like the way the Team Williams stables is prepping up their imports this autumn. Ran well 1800m fresh last campaign and graduated to Cup week 2nd Fanatic 2800m. Is more mature now and better than these. PEDRO XIMENEZ has good recent form including a win over Weir’s Poppiholla who an well in an Adelaide Cup (at odds). CORRS is solid, DIVINE SANCTION a last start winner in easier company.
SUGGESTED: SHERLOCK HOLMES – elementary.
Race 5: 4-9-6-2
Tough quaddie starter, most have some hope. Going with VILLA SARCHI resuming. Trick here is the amount of pace and go forward horses of which this is one. Showed enough ability then won maiden before break. MONKEY MAGIC was off a long break Pakenham and if runs to that performance, wide and finding line, will be hard to beat. (Our Gladiator form reads well now). DIVERTENTE is a speed runner, racing well, will give sight. CHARLIE GARCON has no recent wins and Holy Blade form looks good.
SUGGESTED: Go wide quaddie, VILLA SARCHI at $10 appeals.
Race 6: 5-9-11-3
Race changed with heavily tried William Thomas scratching now very even. BLACKWOLF RUN is an on-pacer who got maiden done well last time and can continue. RIEL REWARD (likely firming favourite) won it’s maiden then at $51, was good in a Listed Race. Down in grade. CRYSTAL WINGS resumed with maiden win Wangaratta, has some claims. BEAVERBROOK has enough competitive ability this grade.
SUGGESTED: Very keen on WILLIAM THOMAS ($3 taken, now as low as $2.35).
Race 7: 4-7-11-5
Bit of a fan on TRANQUIL MISS coming back from adequate run in a Flem G3 last time. Reckon this is ideal trip (last win 1717m Sale) and absolutely in right grade. CEDAR GRANDE resumed with good 2nd Ballarat for new stable and 1700m now also ideal. HIGH LOW BET for Waller respected. Lightly raced filly, trialled ok Sydney and straight to Melbourne a lead. RISING HOPE has been tinkering away around this grade and has some hope.
SUGGESTED: TRANQUIL KISS each-way.
Race 8: 7-6-14-12
This is silly odds ($16) BLACK MOSHEEN and trained by Weir. Huge win Ararat after slow out and at the price is good gamble. Obviously TOGA PICTA (now a gelding) is hard to beat. Was sound resuming and Bord de Gain form reads well. SNOGGING resumed, probably wants further 1300m but has ability and in good hands via trainers/jockey combo. STAR SEARCH is another respected, close to a win.
SUGGESTED: Good race but BLACK MOSEEN at $16 – yes.
