Shane Ciurleo’s preview & best Ipswich

Ipswich Turf Club Wednesday, 28 March 2018

Rail Position: 3 metres Entire Course

Track Condition: Soft 5

Weather: Fine

Penetrometer: 4.7

Best Bets:

WIN R4 N3 BASARA

EACH WAY R2 N9 GREYNOMAD

Race 1

Looks a nice race for former NSW trained 1 TE AMO to resume a winner here.  She hasn’t been far away in stronger races than this, and the Edmonds stable gets the job done with these types more often than not. She has trialed up well, maps to sit close to the speed and looks to good.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 8 – 5

Bet: WIN 1 TE AMO

Race 2

9 GREYNOMAD was a big effort in defeat at Dalby and can go 1 better here.  He was trapped wide from the outset, and the rider had no choice but to cut the ribbons early and speared away early in the straight, before tiring late. From a better gate today, he can settle close in the running line, and if he can save that turn of foot for the top of straight, can give a kick and be hardest to run down.

Numbers: 9 – 6 – 4 – 5

Bet: EACH WAY 9 GREYNOMAD

Race 3

Super competitive 3YO QTIS bonus race, with a number of hopes. 4 CRYTSAL AMOR smashed a maiden field at Doomben last start, has fitness and gets in well with the claim for Taylor Marshall, she has the ability to go with it. 3 BRENDA is the interesting runner, stepped up from a 1100m Class1 to a metro 1600m last start, and raced well. Subsequent city winners Epic Rant & Trommelshclagen finished just ahead of her that day, emphasizing the strength of the effort. She’s back to 1350m here off a freshen, but the stable has them fit to go to the races, and she’s a good EW hope.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 2

Bet: EACH WAY 3 BRENDA

Race 4

A drop in class should see 3 BASARA back in the winners list here.  Gets in here on the minimum after the claim, she can spear across and sit on speed and be too good. A repeat of her last 2 runs will see her winning and winning well.

Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 2

Bet: WIN 3 BASARA

Race 5

12 STAR OF POMPEII hasn’t been far away in 3 runs this prep, but finds a race that lacks depth here, and with luck in running can be in the finish. There looks to be even speed here, which should allow him to settle mid field in the running line, and he gest his chance to break through again.

Numbers: 12 – 5 – 7 – 10

Bet: EACH WAY 12 STAR OF POMPEII

Race 6

3 MUSTARRID looks ready now after 4 runs back from a spell and gets to the 2000m + for the first time this preparation.  He was good last prep when getting to the trip, with a 2nd and 4th from 2 goes at Saturday metro class, and at the tail end of his preparation. He will have to lump 58.5kg but that is only 4kg above the minimum, so no real disadvantage there, and with luck looks a safe Each Way play here.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 4

Bet: EACH WAY 3 MUSTARRID

Race 7

Although drawn wide, 4 MR HENNESSY has the speed to get across, and if he does so, will be very hard to beat. He’s fitter for the 1 run back, gets J Lloyd and looks a great hope in a race with not many winning hopes. 1 SAIPAN resumes here after winning 2 of 4 starts last preparation. He has been a consistent horse since joining Ben Currie, winning 8 of 16 starts, he races well fresh and is a winning hope also.

Numbers: 4 – 1 – 8 – 13

Bet: EACH WAY 4 MR HENNESSY

Race 8

1 SPIRAL was rewarded for consistency with a strong win at Grafton last start, on slightly firmer footing than what he raced on previously.  The drying track looks suitable here, and from the gate he can roll forward, and looks very hard to beat.  10 DARK ELEMNET looks the hardest to beat on a better surface here. He was ok late on the heavy last start and looks and the main danger here.

Numbers: 1 – 10 – 2 – 8

Bet: WIN 1 SPIRAL
