Rail Position: True Position Entire Circuit

Track Type: Turf

Track Condition: Soft 6

Weather: Overcast

Penetrometer: 6.33

Best Bets:

WIN R9 N4 GUARD OF HONOR

EACH WAY R4 N5 COGLIERE

ROUGHIE R6 N8 MONTEUX

Race 1

The stayers go around to kick off the day, with 3 IRISH OPTIMISM getting his chance to break through in QLD. He comes here 2 weeks between runs, unlike a few of his rivals here on a 7-day back up, maps to get a good run and gets his chance.

Numbers: 3 – 6 – 9 – 10

Bet: WIN 3 IRISH OPTIMISM

Race 2

Wide open, super competitive race for the 2yo Colts and geldings. All of numbers 1,2,3,4 are city Saturday winners, and all leading chances. Throw in the mix a couple of nice trial performers from the T Gollan camp in 10 REVEL & 11 ROYAL HALE. Impossible to line them up, but I can make a small case for 9 BIG ARJAY at odds.  Was well supported on debut when beaten into third on debut on a soft track. Both the winner and runner up have raced well in metro company since, franking the form. He gets blinkers first time here, draws gate 1, and looks an improving type.  Enough reasons for a small EW bet at $41.

Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 2

Bet: EACH WAY 9 BIG ARJAY

Race 3

The fillies 2YO is just as tough as the colts, with a number of winning chance. Like the form lines that 3 CLOCKWISE brings to this, her most recent start before a spell she was runner up to SNICKY MINAJ. At her first start in a race, she beat PENINO who went on to win the $125,000 QTIS Classic. She is drawn well in gate 2, maps to get a nice trailing run, and a repeat of her first preparation performances, can see her winning here.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 7 – 1

Bet: EACH WAY 3 CLOCKWISE

Race 4

5 COGLIERE is a “get back, run on” type that will enjoy the expanses of Caloundra. Has been steaming home from the back in 2 runs from a spell, and certainly looks ready to win again. With the smallish field, he shouldn’t be anymore than 6L off them at the 600m, and he can pull to the crown of the track and steam home.  Providing the track isn’t favoring on pace runners, I think he is a super EW hope. If the race was over further, I would have had her on top, as I think she is the best horse in the race over 1800-2000m. I thought 5 COGLIERE would be too sharp at the end of 1600m for his rivals.

Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 3

Bet: EACH WAY 5 COGLIERE

Race 5

Big watch on the Anthony Freedman trained 15 CABIERRO here, having her first run in QLD.  She was impressive maiden winner at Ballarat, before contesting the Wakeful at Group 2 level. She is a 3YO Filly against the older horses, but she is clearly here for bigger races. The blinkers going on for the first time here, suggests a positive showing is expected. While her rivals are much more experienced, they are an even bunch at about their level, with 10 SUSURRI another 3yo filly well placed that can run well again. Of the older horses, 3 HELAROCITY looks a hope on his best, the gate is the only issue.

Numbers: 15 – 10 – 3 – 8

Bet: EACH WAY 15 CABIERRO

Race 6

2 DREAMS APLENTY should work across to the lead here and be hard to run down. He’s a tough on pacer, who has the toughness and class to lead all the way here. 8 MONTEUX is one that will race off the speed and charge late. He has won 2 from 4 fresh and has trialed well enough to suggest he can dash well fresh here.

Numbers: 8 – 2 – 7 – 5

Bet: EACH WAY 8 MONTEUX

Race 7

Princess Stakes for the 3yo Fillies, and another good field to battle it out for black type status. 3 MISSYBEEL is another Sydney visitor, who was just over 5L behind LUVALUVA in the group 3 Adrian Knox stakes last time. She is back to 1600m here, and interestingly the blinkers go on for the first time. She should position up near the speed in the run, and with a bit of luck in running can prove hard to beat. 1 SKATE TO PARIS was a forgive on the bog track last time, she had made good ground from the back at her previous 2 starts, and looks like the1660m ridden quiet is suitable, a big chance.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 11 – 2

Bet: EACH WAY 3 MISSYBEEL

Race 8

2 JOHNNY WHITESOX looks suited here up to 1200m on the wide expanses of the Caloundra track, and look for him steaming home late. His effort to win 2 back was very good, and he put in another good run at the coast last time out. There looks to be good speed here, which will help. 13 FEMME FIREBALL is another who will be sitting off the speed and roaring home late. She was excellent last prep, and the last run of her prep saw her finish 4L behind PIERATA at Group 3 level, excellent form for this.

Numbers: 2 – 13 – 4 – 1

Bet: WIN 2 JOHNNY WHITESOX & QUINELLA 2 & 13

Race 9

4 GUARD OF HONOR was enormous in winning at Canberra, ridden off the speed he left some decent horses in his wake winning by 5.4L.  There’s sure to be speed here, and D Browne can balance him up from the wide gate and let go down the crown and get over the top of them. Of the on speed brigade, 5 BOOMWAA was a good effort in the Goldmarket at listed level last time, he can figure here.

Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 2

Bet: WIN 4 GUARD OF HONOUR
