Shane Ciurleo’s preview & best Doomben

Brisbane Racing Club @ Doomben Saturday, 21 April 2018

Rail Position: +1.5m Entire Course

Track Type: Turf

Track Condition: Soft 7

Weather: Showers

Best Bets:

EACH WAY R1 N3 MY DIAMANTINE

ROUGHIE R2 N3 DYLANS LUCK

Race 1

2200m staying event, with Chris Waller having a strong hand with 3 runners engaged. I’m looking to the fresh stayer on the scene here, with 3 MY DIAMANTINE getting to a staying trip for the first time this prep.  She showed she is going well this preparation, with a very slick last 600m last start. Expect her to settle close from gate 2 here and be very hard to beat.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 5

Bet: EACH WAY 3 MY DIAMANTINE

Race 2

With the wet weather around Brisbane, and a wet track expected, I think 3 DYLAN’S LUCK is one that has been missed in the market and represents good value.  Really liked the way he hit the line at Dalby, reeling off an impressive last 600m. He will only improve off that, the wet is a bonus and he has measured up to this class previously.  He doesn’t have to get too far back her, and with luck in running is a good hope.

Numbers: 3 – 2 – 14 – 1

Bet: EACH WAY 3 DYLANS LUCK

Race 3

Was with 7 CUDDLE ME TIGHT who has been scratched. Not much between 5 PENINO & 6 SIZZLING ACE, who ran 1-2 last time they meet.  They both look chances here and but should be fighting out the finish. 2 ARCHADE & 11 LADY MCCABE to fight out the minor money.

Numbers:  5 – 6 – 2 – 11

Bet: EACH WAY 5 PENINO

Race 4

5 DENBERN gets to a suitable trip for the first time this preparation, after 4 runs back from a spell. His last win was here at the end of his last preparation, over this distance beating a handy galloper in Bergerac.  The wet track poses no issue, and I think he can roll forward and sit on speed. He looks a good hope in an even field. 2 SAVWELL struggled to run out a strong 2200m last time and comes back to 1600m here today.  He looks better suited at the mile and is a winning hope also.  13 GIVUS A CUDDLE is another who handles wet, races on speed and with the claim will be in the finish.

Numbers: 5 – 2 – 13 – 14

Bet: EACH WAY 5 DENBERN

Race 5

This race has been knocked around with the scratching of the fancied runner A SHIN ROOK. The scratching’s have allowed the second emergency 18 COSMOPOL a run, and this looks very winnable. He closed well late last start and looks ready to peak here third up. He boasts a good run behind the likes of INTERLOCUTER last preparation, and a repeat of that effort will see him going close here. Keep an eye on 8 EL CAMPEADOR, who has dashed well fresh previously. He has drawn bad, but if the track is suiting his racing style, keep him safe.

Numbers: 18 – 8 – 1 – 5

Bet: EACH WAY 18 COSMOPOL

Race 6

2 WHYPEEO resume here off an impressive trial on a soft track.  The highlight of his last preparation, was his win over subsequent MM 3yo Guineas winner PIERATA.  Expecting J Lloyd to spear him to the front from gate 3 and be winning here.  6 AGGRAVATE will likely roll forward and sit outside WHYPEEO. The wet track won’t worry him, I think they can dominate the race from the front and run the quinella.

Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 4

Bet: WIN 2 WHYPEEO

Race 7

3 MR SNEAKY brings the clear superior form lines here, competing against some the best in Melbourne during the spring, and then earlier in the year.  He ran second in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke, then chased the likes of HARTNELL & BRAVE SMASH at his 2 most recent starts. I’m certain at his best, he just wins, although a little weary this isn’t his grand final, I still expect him to be too good.  The Ben Currie trained 4 AMANAAT has won impressively through his grades since coming to QLD, culminating in a win at listed level last start. I’m expecting him and 6 HI IM BACK to speed forward and race on speed and be in the finish.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 6 – 1

Bet: WIN 3 MR SNEAKY

Race 8

Looking to 10 PELETHRONIUS to be right on speed today and looks ready to win here. The wet track is a bonus, and he can dictate up on the pace and shoot for home in the straight, A few of his rivals have tricky draws and a messy traffic race is a big possibility. 16 BEDFORD clearly has a touch of class about him, and he will need it overcome the wide gate. He is likely going to be better at 2000m, but you can’t ignore his recent effort when third to HOMESMAN & ALMANDIN in late February at Caulfield.  11 INVINCIBLE KNIGHT will need a touch of luck from the low draw, but he has been good enough at his last 2 runs to suggest he is ready to run a big race here. He gets back and runs on in his races, will need luck along the fence, but is certainly capable.

Numbers: 10 – 16 – 11 – 5

Bet: EACH WAY 10 PELETHRONIUS

Race 9

Impossible to tip against 2 MR MARBELLOUZ, who is shooting for 5 straight wins here. From gate 1, expect him to fire straight to the lead, and be able to run along and is the clear horse to beat.  11 FREDDIE FOXTROT is a nice 3YO who although drawn wide here, can run a big race first up.  7 OINK is an ultra competitive galloper, who from the good gate, gets a good run in transit and is a definite place chance.

Numbers:  2 – 11 – 7 – 16

Bet: WIN 2 MR MARBELLOUZ
