Snowy Clark’s preview & best Caulfield

CAULFIELD APRIL 21

This is billed by Racing Victoria as their Owners And Breeders raceday – hence the deep fields and massive VOBIS topped prizemoney. And the way the fields fall, this could be – if form runs true – should be renamed Punter’s Day. Given the set weight penalties conditions of these races, there are some seemingly standout bets across the card, so if you have no fear taking a shortie and believing in form, today could well be your day. Rail out 9m, a Cauulfield

form 3 the order of the day.

BEST BET: RICH CHARM R8#2

BEST VALUE: BONS AWAY R7#3

Race 1: 1-9-3-4

Hard to not think FRENCH EMOTION wins this. Good behind (flying) Quilista Flemington resuming then no luck Bendigo. Ratings and weight scale says wins. ANOTHER BULLSEYE (off a 71 v 97) only gets 2kg to highlight the situation but if any issues with favourite and top pick – well may be the value danger. MY TRUE LOVE (84) ensures the speed and true tempo. SUMMER GLEN (67) is solid but doubt think it can win.

SUGGESTED: FRENCH EMOTION should win.

Race 2: 3-4-1-5

Looks a race for WIDGEE TURF, has had an excellent campaign, mostly around VOBIS and this is what he’s chasing again having beaten most rivals last start. Produces a big finish and looks target race. Well placed on his 100 rating and carries same weight as threat KEN’S DREAM (95) who had its chance last time against it off back big Newmarket run. Has a claim. TURNITAROUND (99) was good behind Widgee Turf resuming, so measures up again. SO SI BON sound in similar race but can’t imagine those beaten last time get revenge unless for bad luck for the favourite.

SUGGESTED: WIDGEE TURF to beat those it beat last time again.

Race 3: 9-10-12-1

Going with the raced but obviously respect any push later for 1st starters of which I’d suggest TYCOON LILY may be best. Keen to see THRILLSTER again who was good at Bendigo off sound city debut. GOLDEN SCRIPT was a $1.35 city winner 2nd up but heading the right way. DES MOINES isn’t a winner but not far away. Like to see it ridden more quietly. YULONG FEBRUARY (cross over nose band on) can improve off solid debut.

SUGGESTED: Tricky but like THRILLSTER.

Race 4: 3-12-9-2

Going KIWIA to turn around the Golden Mile form where DODGING BULLETS won with good run. KIWIA is back at Caulfield and 2000m is it’s go – is 2/3 here at trip and an obvious Weir target race. That said, think MONTOYA’S SECERT is the danger on the back-up and looks competitive again with Callow taking over. ROYAL ORDER is ready to improve witness wise.

SUGGESTED: Race for KIWIA

Race 5: 1-2-5-6

All eyes NATURE STRIP – happy to tip – going places, not knocking the $1.80 quote. And not weighted out of it. SNITZEPEG is the improver (at the odds against here). Wants further an 1100m but form around Levendi tell you it’s a good horse. PREVAILING WINDS is the fit challenger who makes own luck. DEPRIVE beaten favourite resuming but run still good despite odds as race got away from it sadly.

SUGGESTED: NATURE STRIP should win.

Race 6: 1-4-6-2

CLIFF’S EDGE has to win. As a 98 rater with 58kg he is on same weight scale as 69 rater MAHAMEDEIS – Weir loves VOBIS, back from Rosehill Guineas just have to believe he has handled the campaign and he’ll win.  INDERNILE (65) on same weight, can’t beat it but can place. STREET SHEIK (63) has talent to place.

SUGGESTED: one out in quaddie – CLIFF’S EDGE.

Race 7: 3-11-12-4

BONS AWAY comes off two meritorious G1 runs this campaign, love Callow booking, very keen at the odds and on a day of seemingly not much value, can make solid case for it. SPRIGHTLY LASS obvious danger, makes luck, will give keen sight. PROPERTY resumes off good trial. FIRST AMONGST EQUALS the value in wider quaddies. If Weir can weave some magic and find best WA form, it can figure

SUGGESTED:  Keen BONS AWAY.

Race 8: 2-12-1-10

Hard not to warm to RICH CHARM here. Ok in Newmarket, after unlucky run in Rubiton – has won 3/5 Caulfield and off 104 rating is so well placed under scale. Clear top pick. LYUBA (0/8 here but 5 times placed) was beaten by ASHLOR resuming but meets it 6kg better, both competitive here though not well placed against top pick. KEEN ARRAY is not one of mine but the best of It (especially at Caulfield) is good enough here (rates 104 as does Rich Charm). GLENROWAN PRINCE is flying and can get some more VOBIS money.

SUGGESTED: Liking RICH CHARM.

Race 9: 13-7-8-5

Weir has turned LAND OF PLENTY into the winning machine it has so often promised. Stays on minimum, looks ideal. Love it. THEANSWERMY FRIEND was exposed last time here in G3, better placed here with less pressure. FLYING JESS is only 2/24 but with a month off can fly here.  TAHANEE will improve off Bendigo resume – was ok.

SUGGESTED: Like LAND OF PLENTY
