Snowy Clark’s early preview & best Caulfield

CAULFIELD April 28

BEST BET: PLEASANT R4 #13

BEST VALUE: GENEVA DIVA R7 #14

Race 1: 8-2-6-3.

Like SECOND MARRIAGE at the odds here to start the day. Comes through the strong Savacool race from Caulfield two weeks ago. Was trapped wide but didn’t shirk the task. Well grounded for this now and like the Callow booking. SNOGGING will run favourite, deservedly off return win Hillside then fair in Listed Race Adelaide that subsequent Phar Lap winner Sopressa came through. Hard to beat. DIAMOND BOW is ready for 1600m now (quickly from sound 1200m resuming). I’M BUXOM gets blinkers now, can race handy and will look like a winner at some stage.

SUGGESTED: SECOND MARRIAGE at the odds.

Race 2: 5-7-1-10

DIVINE QUALITY is a talent, unbeaten in two first-up runs both campaigns to date. Trialled nicely. Top pick. Well found is Adelaide mare ALTA STELLA who won well Hillside resuming then good again in black type race Adelaide. 1200m suits now. HEAR THE CHANT has a few gear changes, notably blinkers on, senior ride taking over. SCOLARIO is down in weights and over the odds. Not knocking CREATIVITY – just not tipping.

SUGGESTED: DIVINE QUALITY appeals.

Race 3: 8-1-6-4

MY PAISANN had 61kg at Pakenham and gave winner 3kg. In what on paper is a tougher race (not overly in reality), is down in the 54kg limit and likes Caulfield. The trap in the race is the import FIDAAWY who has shown up with some sharpness in short Flemington jumpouts. Early betting support a positive. Can tie form overseas into Fastnet Tempest (2066m). RIYYADH is 7 weeks between runs but had to like late effort behind star Kings Will Dream. SUNDAY PRAY is tough and makes own luck.

SUGGESTED: always a fan of MY PAISANN.

Race 4: 13-16-15-7

Biggest field of the day but best bet comes up here in PLEASANT. Trialled well (Illustrious Lad) before stunning debut for this stable at Pakenham in C1 company – winning by 6 lens from the front. Seemingly over issues which had restricted it to 2 runs over 2 years previously. ANNRHON resumes and might be value. Short break and liked its Flemington win 3 back. CLEOPATRA’S GLORY is 2/3 fresh and resumes. WILDE GEM was excellent resuming.

SUGGESTED: Bet-up – PLEASANT.

Race 5: 3-14-2-4

Think WILLIAM THOMAS with the gear change (Norton bit) after racing too keenly can turn it around on REILMARTINI (and with a 1kg turnaround). Think the value is REDCORE, only one win, that was fresh in maiden company Bendigo then backed it up with good closing effort there on leaders track. SUN QUAN has prepped up well for return after impressive campaign when dashed through some grades at the provincials.  Including EXCELTARA in thoughts.

SUGGESTED: Revenge for WILLIAM THOMAS.

Race 6: 2-5-1-3

SUNSET WATCH is odds-on at time of assessment off back of powerful Caulfield 1100m win last time. But no good thing for mine under siege from Lindsay Park, DALSWINTON – who chased last week’s impressive winner Thrillster, on debut at Bendigo and the $500k debutant SIKORSKY (Pierro half to Tulip) who looked a real talent at recent Flemington jumpouts. FIGHTING HARADA comes back for 3rd prep as a 2YO.

SUGGESTED: Trying DALSWINTON at the odds.

Race 7: 14-2-1-6

Deep race.  But value here at $23 in GENEVA DIVA. Speedy galloper with a Kilmore Mdn win only against some Stakes performers here but cruised in recent Tatura trial, can lead and follow the rail around the 1 corner here for D Moor and give huge sight at the odds. Tipping LEATHER’N’LACE who only had the one back in February and freshened by Weir will run well. That run excellent here 1200m G3 company – will want every bit of the 1100m but sure it will run well. BLONDIE was excusable fresh and better than that, was an all the way LR winner last spring. SANADAAT won impressively fresh last campaign then ok in better races.

SUGGESTED: Tough race but a little something GENEVA DIVA at $23 plus.

Race 8: 2-17-17-12

LEODORO – as always – is going to need the late luck, especially being forced back from poor draw this start. Ran on well behind Land Of Plenty (good Flemington) last time, one day 9hopefully this, it will all fall his way. ÉCLAIR CALLING was good late resuming at Morphettville and ran well before a break at 1400m and wants that now. FLYING MURTY should be unbeaten, made light work of BM64 Pakenham and can graduate here. NOTIO never runs poorly, gets good run again here. But other hopes include 1/11/14.

SUGGESTED: Trying LEODORO again.

Race 9: 4-10-18-13

Was on ABBDON 1st Australian run – had its chance but looked to just peak on the run. The 2000m should suit better with the extra fitness. Happy to go with it over TOP OF THE RANGE (2nd that same race Caulfield), now 1st try at trip. NO COMMITMENT has put 2 together and was just beaten (1800m) by Magic Consul (so the form ties in). NOUMEA comes through the same race as the top 2 so is respected. Think that’s the race unless any more knowledge about import JAAMEH on debut, no wins under 2100m.

SUGGESTED: A fitter ABBDON to land 1st Aussie win.
