Snowy Clark’s early preview & best Caulfield

CAULFIELD Saturday May 12

So there was 14mm of rain Thursday night and the forecast is for more through Friday so at best we will be racing Soft 6 but expecting chance of worse. Makes form assessment a touch tricker with low exposure to wet tracks of late but excepting The Bool carnival form which will stand up here. Rail out 12m is far enough for a Saturday and expect they will be running on mid to out as day progresses.

BEST BET: FURRION r8 #2

BEST VALUE: MONKEY MAGIC R2 #11

Race 1: 1-6-5-9

Obviously very difficult given the expected conditions but hard to ignore ROCK HARD is 2/2, one of those on a soft 5 debut (albeit $12) but beat Weir youngster who went to The Bool carnival well fancied and then beat one who went well Flemington last Saturday. Market move early for THAT SONG (Your Song $20k Classic Yearling) who showed ability in Flemington jump-out. SO MAGNIFIQUE (Magnus $18k) trialled Monday showing enough. TRUNFIO (Fastnet Rock $330k Magic Millions) has been safe in betting with little public exposure.

SUGGESTED: Happy to go with the winning ROCK HARD unless clear information elsewhere.

Race 2:  11-7-3-6

Not that keen on race but thinking MONKEY MAGIC with Callow on the 54kg limit is best option but with caveat that it hasn’t raced worse than good basically. WORLD OF HOPE was scratched last week to resume here, good fresh and ok in ground. DIVINE CHILLS was just ok resuming but can improve 2nd-up and this ground suitable (different to Bool soft). RUN GYPSY RUN is 1/1 heavy and ignoring last 1st-up run, was unbeaten previous 2 fresh runs.

SUGGESTED: Again treading softly, leaning MONKEY MAGIC.

Race 3: 5-9-3-4

KENJORWOOD looks back to me. Had 61kg at The Bool and pushed typically forward (then left in front way too soon) giving winner 7kg for a length. The blinkers worked there. Ground good. Like it. Always a fan of MY PAISANN, racing well, tries hard, staying on limit a plus. Very competitive. JACQUINOT BAY just holds form in this grade making own luck. SNOANO can improve off satisfactory Australian debut. Doubt AMOVATIO will run.

SUGGESTED: KENJORWOOD to win.

Race 4: 5-12-6-2

No problems PLATINUM ANGEL getting run over by stablemate Peaceful State (who will win in Adelaide Saturday). Needs touch luck alley with rail out and 1st test in ground but have to be top pick. ABSOLUTE HEAVEN will drag them forward from gate perhaps, is progressive. HONEY ESPRIT landed the big bets on pace The Bool, so all the key tempo is drawn out here. LIGHT ROMANCE has performed on slow ground, run resuming here was much better than looked.

SUGGESTED: Bit of class PLATINUM ANGEL.

Race 5: 13-1-8-3

Disclosing small interest ownership CURRAGH who trialled very well publicly Monday at Cranbourne. Good fresh and in ground but has had a few minor setbacks and will improve off this. That said, was happy to take 1st price $14. But have to think JAWS OF STEEL is the progressive galloper here off well found Bool win. MAXIMUS is yet to see very soft ground but ready for 1400m now. KING RIVER has to run out strong 1400m in affected ground (but does like getting toe in). Not saying no, just have that query at 1440m. SILVERA has the inside gate (maybe not a real bonus) has a good fresh record and hard to ignore credentials in this grade.

SUGGESTED: JAWS OF STEEL on top but cheering and backing CURRAGH.

Race 6: 2-3-1-5

A race loaded with form and soft ground queries. VAINSTREAM is racing very well – form stands up around him (Nature Strip was just in front of it last time) but not yet exposed to the expected ground. SUN QUAN led up a good one resuming and was brave, won on a Pakenham slow. BEL SONIC won a soft 7 Pakenham resuming last preparation and has to be a player here though stable expecting may need the run. WASSERGEIST just got the job done resuming, no exposure to this sort of ground. Deep race away.

SUGGESTED: many hopes, happy to go VAINSTREAM.

Race 7: 8-3-11-6

INN KEEPER was very strong on the soft Bool carnival track (off heavy win). The fitness edge critical for mine, only bad run was spelled straight away. WISE HERO is a real talent but meets one fit and with approved soft ground form where Wise hero has only seen a soft 7 fresh-up last campaign (Nasdex won).  MANOLO BLAHNIQ hasn’t won under 1200m but has ability, no real take on soft track form. URBAN RULER is 3 from 4 fresh, 3 from 4 soft and is the overs here. PRINCETON SPIRIT in quaddie.

SUGGESTED: INN KEEPER on top but if odds attractive will have something Urban Ruler.

Race 8: 2-3-4-11

FURRION is a star in the making. Best of the day. Stablemate LUCKY FOR ALL also won at The Bool carnival – ok ran quicker time winning its BM64 then Furrion in its BM70 over the 1700m. Not worried about that. INSPIRANTE tried to chase SOPRESSA (now G1 winner) in Adelaide off BM58 win. KUGELBLITZ has trialled well, saw a soft track once for on pace dominant win Werribee.

SUGGESTED: FURRION to nail them.

Race 9: 5-13-2-11

The form reads so well for OUR PEAKY BLINDERS who is enjoying brilliant campaign. Beat Lipstick Lover giving it weight in Adelaide, handles soft, the one to beat. LIKE THE CLAPPERS was only 2.5 lens from FURRION at The Bool and that will stand up, plenty of heavy track exposure won 4 placed 4 of 13. Good reserve bet. MONGOLIAN WOLF was good behind well found stablemate TRADESMAN at The Bool, won 2 from 4 heavy. NOUMEA is fit and racing well.

SUGGESTED: very keen OUR PEAKY BLINDERS
