Snowy Clark’s preview & best Sandown

LADBROKES Hillside May 16

BEST BET: FIFTY STARS R5#2

BEST VALUE: EVIL LIL R6 #10 but work the quaddie.

Race 1: 5-2-4-12

MOUNT KILCOY is a $200k High Chaparral debutant for Weir (doesn’t normally bring them to town to do so), beautifully bred dam side and early confidence in betting a good pointer as was a Burrumbeet jump-out on a turning track that would never have suited. DUALITY was very good at Geelong on debut ($5 into $4.6) but will seemingly burn some energy from outer gate early though concede surely will give bold sight. LEGALE debuts in winkers and is a $45k yearling who trialled well enough at Tatura. ELUSIVE MELODY has been an elusive cost to punters, beaten favourite 4 from 5 but no luck at two Geelong runs though slight concern with pulling up “respiratory issues” latest. SPEAK SOFTLY ready for 1300m.

SUGGESTED: Gambling on Weir (eliminates much risk) – MOUNT KILCOY.

Race 2: 8-6-3-10

Obviously tricky race with so many on debut but jumpout and money leads us to PROPELLE who hit the line well at Flemington and looks a talent. But nothing decisive here. KOBE PRINCESS goes in with the experience and form from Werribee 2nd is ok (3rd horses River Star won last Fri). FIRESTREAKER debuts in blinkers and well found. SWEET ROCKETTE, a $185k yearling, with Michelle Payne has trialled well but also would think RIVIERA ($50k yearling) is worth thought, has shown pace in jump outs.

SUGGESTED: PROPELLE has been well found but tough race.

Race 3: 3-5-6-1

Even contest but CLIPPER back in Melbourne on affected ground which is preferred and back to 1000m ditto. STRYKINGLEE resumes without winker, trial sound, profiles well. BONNE SENSATION going for 3 straight but no-one else doing that here. MOONLOVER suited 1000m here, seems better trip.

SUGGESTED: Happy to go Clipper on top but then not much between dangers.

Race 4: 3-5-9-2

JOHNNY VINKO missed out at Pakenham, Qld Derby bound (ran in Vic Derby when too young) but shapes as useful staying type, at least good enough for this. That said, CREEDENCE, who missed SA Derby run, comes through the right form races eg St Leger (2nd and 3rd there place SA Derby) and will be very competitive. CALIFORNIAGRANDCRU is fit and solid, no star, but in the mix. EUROMAN (weir) has been schooling since latest (behind OH BABY).

SUGGESTED: Can’t see winner outside this main quartet, by JOHNNY VINKO ok.

Race 5: 2-1-14-12

Have backed FIFTY STARS at the best odds ($4.4) pre-scratchings. Happy to cop the deductions for best of the day. Looked a potential star at The Bool (so did Furrion – and may still be). Beautifully placed here. Danger from within – SOUFFRANT (stablemate) has learned how to win and is good talent. VITANI will win better than BM 70 but runs into a tough edition here. MOANA JEWEL came out worse of the race MR MONEY BAGS and EVIL CRY ran through at The Bool but can improve here.

SUGGESTED: FIFTY STARS wins.

Race 6: 10-14-6-5

Very even contest, load this leg of quaddie up as we have anchors around it and many of these have legitimate winning hopes but none definitive. Liking EVIL LIL off sound resuming run and dropping in grade and thinking this race may pattern out well for it. SUMMER GLEN was a beaten Bool favourite, didn’t shirk task, never really looked as though it was keen to win, not sure to be overly enamoured with that. THAT RINGS A BELL looms large here (form alongside FAMELIST) from latest runs. HECTOPASCAL (Weir) a must for quaddies but will go wider – see below.

SUGGESTED: Stay alive in quaddie but EVIL LIL best value in open race.

Race 7: 5-1-12-14

Thinking this a few ways and taking two quaddies. THINK BABE off Warrnambool (Lord Tennyson beat it home) can be top pick from the reliable yet non-winner BARTHELONA and respecting KACHING but can find hopes in the 2nd or wider quaddie for long odds PLUS EFFRONTE (sound return) and WYANGLE (huge maiden win and finds the line).

SUGGESTED: THINK BABE top pick but have strategy for quaddie success.

Race 8: 12-15-13-7

And round this off with another good thing and one out in quaddie from Weir in HEAVENLY THOUGHT. Doesn’t that Lucky For All form read too good for this mid-week BM64(still getting over Furrion), anyway move on. Should win. Outside hopes ERAMOSA, SHE’S GOT SPEED (who hasn’t but hits line), and WIMBORNE (no recent wins).

SUGGESTED: HEAVENLY THOUGHT should win.
