Race 1             No.4    SPARKLY STAR

Race 1

4 – 7 – 1 – 6

SPARKLY STAR has shown good ability at his four career starts and I am banking on the gelding to be the making of him as a city class racehorse. He has trialled twice showing good natural speed and if he can run to the front here without going to keenly he will give a kick and be hard to get past. Sweet Scandal has created a good impression at the trials and today she gets to show it on debut. She has natural early tempo and is likely to settle handy and be in the mix for a long way. Highjacker was never in the hunt on debut and was tipped out straight after that run. He has trialled solidly leading in here and will be the one coming hard late

Race 2

7 –1 – 14 – 12

Looks a tricky race with plenty of chances and who will get the luck in running. Bubbles’N’Troubles has shown natural ability and even though drawn wide she has a good cruising tempo and if she gets luck early will be right there at the end. I ended up with HELGA as I think she will get the right run sitting on the back of the speed in a stalking roll. She looks a little stronger filly this time around and a filly destined for some nice races. Tawaret looks the value to me as she will likely get a perfect run from barrier one probably on the back of Echo Gem the expected leader. Reelem In Ruby and Singing Sand also having winning claims.

Race 3

4 – 8 – 1 – 3

The questions you need to ask is who will be suited with the lack of speed but will they handle the heavy ground. Tswalu looks to get a perfect run and I think is the best horse in the race but will she get through the wet ground. Mad Fox is on a learning curve since joining Chris Waller to settle in his races so expect him to look for cover but he does get through the ground. Both of them are major players and will be hard to beat but I have settle on FLORID who looks terrific odds considering he will settle in the first two and loves the wet ground. His first up run at Hawkesbury behind his stablemate Wander was solid and with further fitness must be considered a player.

Race 4

6 –  2 – 1 – 7

The favourite Feelin The Love is first up off a good barrier trial at Newcastle and if previous campaigns are to be judged she races well fresh and loves wet ground. Connoisseur has finished in the first two at five of his seven starts and although his trials haven’t set the world on fire his race form suggests he is a major player here. I have ended up tipping IMPASSE who has only raced three times recording a win and minor placing. The win was against weak opposition but looking at him at the trials he looks a stronger type this time around and I expect him to roll forward and sit handy probably tagging Connoisseur.

Race 5

2 – 4 – 8 – 7

CHALMERS only needs to repeat his last start second behind Gresham and he should be hard to hold out. Gresham has gone to another level which I think gives Chalmers’ run plenty of merit and from gate one and the ability to handle wet tracks make him the one to beat. Cormac still has plenty to learn and I am sure when the penny finally falls he can go on and win Saturday races regularly but even though he is still in the learning phase he has a good motor and will be there in the spoils today. Toryjoy comes through a solid race behind Touch Of Mink and is likely to race handy giving her a chance while the expected leader Rakhish who won last start will be in front for a long way.

Race 6

2 – 5 – 8 – 1

MORNINGTON may well get control here and could appreciate the opportunity to roll at his leisure and the extra room without other horses around and show his true ability. His last start was his best for a little while and may have just turned the corner being ridden closer. Only Tiger finally recorded his second win last time out against moderate opponents but it was on heavy ground and it is sure to help his confidence.

Race 7

7 – 4 – 8 – 2

SEAHAMPTON is first up after six months but she created a good impression winning last December at Newcastle. From a nice barrier she should enjoy a soft run and be amongst the spoils. Oria has been terrific this preparation with solid efforts including a win. A repeat of her last start behind Touch Of Mink will have her right in the mix. Deft was very good winning at Kembla last time out when coming from back. The best part was the way she chased and put them to the sword.
