Warren has spring ambitions for Trilli

Trainer Jason Warren has spring carnival ambitions for two-year-old filly Trilli who will first try to land a Saturday metropolitan victory at Caulfield.

Trilli was placed on debut at Sale last month before showing a good turn of foot to win a midweek city race against her own age and sex over 1000m at Sandown on June 13.

Warren is planning to start Trilli in Saturday’s 1200m handicap for two-year-olds in a bid to boost the filly’s prize money and rating ahead of the spring.

“I think she’s pretty smart,” Warren said.

“Obviously she’s pretty untapped still so we don’t know how good she really is but she took a lot of experience from her first start at Sale and then she put them away at Sandown like we thought she would, even first-up.

“I think she’s well above average so a Saturday-grade race this week should be a nice test for her.”

Jake Noonan retains the ride on Trilli and Warren said the filly had trained on well since her Sandown victory.

He is hoping the rising three-year-old could stretch out to 1600 metres in the spring.

“I’m hoping that she can be a Guineas filly,” Warren said.

Saturday’s race has attracted 25 nominations including 10 unraced horses.
