BEST BET:

Race 1             No.2    DEFENCE MISSILE

Race 1

DEFENCE MISSILE is a handy 2yo that finally got his just rewards last start winning at the Sunshine Coast in dominant fashion. Yes his win came on heavy ground but I reckon his two runs on good tracks have been his best two career runs. Firstly he was second to Boomsara and then first up this campaign he ran second to The Fire Trap who then went to Sydney and won in dominant fashion. He can get us punters who on the right foot. Pinch Vista debuted with a solid effort on soft ground but now gets on a good track a surface he had trialled smartly on.

2 – 7 – 4 – 1

Race 2

This 2200m event has absolutely no speed on paper so maybe a few will realise that and elect to be a bit more forward than usual. Ruling Dynasty jumps sharply in distance but is sure to appreciate the drop in grade and from a good gate is likely to settle not far off the front. San Telmo came off a three week break and was impressive and even though jumping to open class here he will relish the lighter weight. Exoteric never got in the hunt at Doomben first up over the mile but has since gone back to the trials and looked in good order. From a soft draw he can show up here amongst the major chances.

2 – 6 – 5 – 1

Race 3

It’s hard not to put SPURCRAFT on top but in this Class 6 the last 50m or so will be heart in the mouth stuff. He resumed off an eight week break and was brilliant in winning with ease albeit over the flying 900m. He is a winner of five from eight and is sure to be the one the others are hoping to beat. Jetsonic is a consistent tough campaigner who on the limit weight from a good draw will be around the mark. Raiden is the big improver dropping 5 kilos and getting back on top of the ground.

3 – 5 – 7 – 2

Race 4

Looks an even race so I am going with the horse I think gets a good run from their barrier draw which SO INVINCIBLE should get. He got a mile back after beginning poorly but stepping up in trip here and with that run under his belt he looks a safe each way bet. Pegapus was ok at Grafton and looks capable of running well in this grade while Rhyming will go forward and make her own luck. She is a winner of two from three third up and from a good gate she looks to be in the gun spot to run well. Whodunnit is stepping up in grade but can bounce off a strong win last start at Toowoomba.

5 – 8 – 4 – 11

Race 5

MAKES YOU THINK won his first two starts before heading to the paddock and resuming a fortnight ago when a gallant second to Jetsonic. The step up to 1200m will help the son of So You Think and from barrier one he looks to be the one the others are going to have to beat. His biggest threat may be the Liam Birchley prepared Mr Bellagio who has also drawn perfectly and has looked in good order in a recent barrier trial at Deagon. I’d be surprised if the one of these two runners doesn’t get the cash.

13 – 3 – 5 – 2

Race 6

I think Michael Cahill’s mount She’s Choosie has crossed the border from NSW with solid form including a strong narrow defeat at Grafton over the carnival. From a soft draw she looks a nice each way bet here. Conspicuous can improve of a somewhat disappointing run last start and be the danger at good value. Helfuci has solid form and won well at Gold Coast last start.

14 – 5 – 11 – 7

Race 7

SABKHAT comes off a three week freshen up and drops back 300m which isn’t ideal but with no weight on his back he is capable of giving this a real shake. Stella Ombra is a handy sprinter that runs well in this grade and gets the quick seven day back up which I am hoping does the trick and switches him back on to his better form. Too Good To Refuse kept finding the line at Rocky last start which was only his second run back from six months off the racing scene. Expect him to strip fitter here and give this a shake.

7 – 6 – 3 – 1

Race 8

BLUEBROOK is flying with two strong wins and he is the one to beat here even though he will now need to do it on a good track. He stays on the minimum but faces a bit more depth here but if he can cruise across and find the top he will be hard to run down. I’m Belucci has only won once from 19 starts which isn’t ideal but he gets a perfect run from a nice draw and gets back on top of the ground which he will enjoy. Cosmic Engine is the query from Chris Waller’s yard so keep a close eye on the betting as he could improve sharply.

14 – 3 – 12 – 9

Race 9

CAPTIVATOR was solid at Grafton in the Guineas and a repeat of that run should have him in the mix here. There looks genuine speed on paper and that should enable Jeff Lloyd to take a sit and utilise his turn of speed. I Am Impinge comes through the same race at Grafton where he didn’t have the best of luck albeit he would not have won but I think with the speed here he should get his chance to wind up and figure late. Chapter And Verse never looked like winning at the Sunshine Coast but incredibly he got close when beaten just over a length. I think the firmer ground and extra 200m are big pluses for him. Looks like Elvis will need luck from the bad gate but with no weight he can probably work and still run a cheeky race.

2 – 7 – 6 – 12
