What the jockeys said: G3 Concorde Stakes

The G3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) was billed as a match race and punters got what was promised with Invincible Star and Redzel duking it out from the front but Redzel travelled sweetly throughout and proved too strong. Kaepernick flashed home to beat Invincible Star into second.

Kerrin McEvoy (Redzel): “It is good to see him back, he has taken all before him and a few people jumped off but he has been pleasing us at home and it’s good to have him back and in winning form.”

“He travelled really well today and topping the rise James (McDonald) pressed the button on his mare and I was still cruising so I just bided my time but he always had the race in his grasp and he has pulled up well from the run.”

Tim Clark (Music Magnate): “Good performance. Back to 1200m he will be hard to beat.”

Hugh Bowman (The Monstar): “Outclassed.”

Tye Angland (Kaepernick): “He ran well. Soft gate, soft run but he put it to a classy horse.”

James McDonald (Invincible Star): “She went brilliant. She had nine months off, and was taking on the best sprinter and the reigning Everest champion, but she paraded big and she’ll take plenty of improvement from that. Once she gets up to six furlongs it’ll suit her because of the tempo. She won’t be able to get a soft lead in an Everest but it’ll be a different tempo to that of Redzel breathing down her neck and putting her to the sword.”

Christian Reith (Boss Lane): “He was really good. He’s in good order. We’ll have to find the right race for him and he will be winning.”

Robert Thompson (Three Sheets): “Happy with his run against those sort of horses. He went super.”

Rachel King (Memes): “Not a bad effort in that class off race.”
