What the jockeys said: G1 Flight Stakes

Oohood prevailed in a thrilling finish to the $500,000 G1 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m). A maiden no more!

Tim Clark (Oohood): “It is very exciting she has come so close as a two-year-old in the Slipper and the Sires’ and she has been running well and after today maybe we have been riding her wrong, riding her too close and we just rode her a bit quieter today.”

“It was a bit messy and there was not a great deal of tempo and there was a fair bit going on in front of me and I was just riding her to have the last shot at them and I actually thought at the furlong I was going to pick the leaders up a bit easier than I did.

Kerrin McEvoy (Miss Fabulass): “She refused to settle for me. Pace wasn’t that strong. Got to the point that was nearly clipping heels.”

Hugh Bowman (Fiesta): “I was disappointed to lose obviously. So proud of her. All heart.”

Tye Angland (Pretty In Pink): “Had a tough run in the early stages. Sprinted well for a furlong and got tired late.”

Michael Walker (Fundamentalist): “Really good run. Track’s a bit hard.”

Craig Williams (Futooh): “She changed stride quickly under pressure and the firmness of the track was against her.”

Michael Hellyer (Baccarat Baby): “She ran a botler. Just that last 50m ran out of room.”

Sam Weatherley (Santa Catarina): “She had to take up the running.”

James McDonald (Maid Of Heaven): “Really nice filly in the making. It’s come all a bit soon for her. Come the Autumn she is going to be a force to be reckoned with.”

Tommy Berry (Symi): “She might have come to the end of it. Not up to that yet.”

Luke Currie (Aristocratic Miss): “Was only even through the line.”

Brenton Avdulla (Mizzy): “Ran okay, just ran out of puff.”

Josh Parr (Nakeeta Jane): “Remarkable effort. First prep, very inexperienced horse. Untapped ability.”
