What the jockeys said: G2 Premiere Stakes

Santa Ana Lane smashed the Randwick track record in winning the $500,000 G2 Santos Coffee Premiere Stakes (1200m) diving up the fence to beat Shoals and In Her Time.

Ben Melham (Santa Ana Lane): He is in fantastic order this horse he has really come into his own this preparation. I was really happy with him coming into it, his work has been great, looks great, the race was set up nicely for him today.

“The track is quite firm and you are definitely wind assisted up the straight, they are the best set of sprinters in the land at the minute so to speak and it’s certainly good to get a win on the board with him and hopefully he can carry it over to The Everest in a fortnight’s time.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Redzel): “He went free for the first furlong. I thought he came back underneath me from the half mile. He was left wanting the last furlong. With that out of his system he going to spot on for The Everest.”

Tye Angland (Trapeze Artist): “He was good. His form says he can labour a bit second up and can improve a lot third up.”

Hugh Bowman (Music Magnate): “They’re a bit good for him over that trip.”

Corey Brown (In Her Time): “Really, really good. Redzel from the hot speed dropped away. Would have been (great) to tow me into the race. She is the winner if that happens. On track.”

Tim Clark (Shoals): “Hit the line well. Appreciated stepping up to 1200m. Would love a drop of rain.”

Stephen Baster (Invincible Star): “She only went okay today. I let her go around and sit outside Redzel. She was a little bit quiet. It wasn’t her grand final. Fingers crossed she can bounce back in two weeks.”

Brenton Avdulla (Invincible Gem): “I thought her run was terrific first up against that quality horse. Where Kris (Lees) runs her second up will see her competitive.”
