Perfect Torryburn at Magic Millions

Teofilo – Fornini colt, lot 595

‘Peaceful Progressive Perfect’ says Torryburn Stud, who with eight Group 1 winners within 18 months heads for another successful Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on 9-13 & 15 January.

In viewing this Torryburn draft, what are the chances in Book 1 of Lot 595 pictured, the only Teofilo in the sale, in claiming the inaugural Golden Slam trifecta of the Golden Slipper, Golden Rose and Golden Eagle. Of course, he will first win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

An early 3 August foal, this Teofilo brown colt is the fifth foal of proven Stravinsky mare Fornini. Already the dam two class winners from three foals to race, Fornini is half-sister to the dam of multiple stakes winner Presently and stakes placed winner Another Time.

This is the immediate family of duel South African Gr2 winner New Predator, Champion NZ 2YO Filly in Serena Miss, Wellington Stakes winner Weissmuller and stakes winner Travolta.

Yes, Teofilo has done it all and is aiming for his first Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner, with the Golden Slam beckoning. A European Champion 2YO himself, being sired by the highly influential Galileo, with his maternal sire being the world renown sire-of sires Danehill.

An Immediate success at stud Teofilo sired the Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall and Voleuse de Coeurs, the Irish St. Leger winner, in his first crop.

The triple Group 1 winner Happy Clapper was a result of Terofilo’s first Australian season, and was followed by Kermadec in winning the Doncaster Mile and George Main Stakes, Palentino the Australia Guineas and Makybe Diva Stakes and Humidor the Australian Cup and Makybe Diva Stakes.

In Europe Trading Leather went onto win the Irish Derby, Pleascach the Irish 1000 Guineas Yorkshire Oaks and Loch Garman the 2yo Criterium International. On the world scene Cross Counter won the 2018 Melbourne Cup, Exultant the Hong Kong Vase and Special Fighter the Al Maktoum Challenge R3.

Early on Day 1 Book 1 is Zoustar’s 29 September chestnut colt, Lot 39, a full-brother to Gr3 Red Anchor winner Charge, from the winning General Nediym mare Queen Of The Falls. The Gr3 winning grandam Niagara Falls produced the Joint Champion Australian 2YO Filly in Elite Falls, and this is the family of Subzero, Confederate Lady, Bensynd and Bracken Bank.

Needing little introduction as the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Golden Rose winner Zoustar was last season’s Champion First Sire with Sunlight winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes. Trainer Tony Gollan also stated that the undefeated Zoustyle has the ability to be the best horse that he has trained.

Early on Day 3 is Lot 362, a 23 September filly by first season sire and Champion 2YO Colt and Golden Slipper winner in Vancouver. She is the first foal of the Commands Gr3 placed city winner Anyaas, who is a half-sister to the stakes placed winners Manhattan Blues and Zikmann.

The outstanding sire of sprinters Written Tycoon has Lot 420 also on Day 2, a chestnut colt foaled 5 October. The second foal of the stakes winning Sebring mare Bring A Ring, his grandam is the influential stakes winning broodmare Hennessy Waltz.

Sliver Slipper winner Headwater has his first yearling at this sale with Lot 657, a bay colt foaled 21 September, being the first foal of the Sydney winning Shamardal mare Holder Sunset. Montana Sunset, his Gr2 stakes placed winner, is half-sister to Gr2 Roman Consul winner Montana Flyer.

Top first season sire Deep Field has Lot 813 on Day 4, a 15 August chestnut colt, the first foal of winning Flying Spur mare Miss Interiors, a half-sister to young Gr1 sire Russian Revolution and Turbo Miss.

The Deep Field bay filly on Day 5 in Book 2, was foaled on 17 September, is the third foal of her Stratum dam Medusa, who is a half-sister stakes winner View The Stars and stakes placed winner Olympus. He is a half-brother to Canterbury winner San Francisco.

Also in Book2 on Day 5 is a 3 September first foal bay colt by Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Star Witness. Sporaffina, his winning Exceed And Excel dam, is a half-sister to the stakes winner Green Roller, from the stakes winning Canny Lad mare Given.

The final offering is a brown colt, foaled 10 August, by successful first season sire Shooting to Win, and is half-brother to Singapore winning stakes placegetter Ferocious. Wynnstay Avenue, his dam by Fastnet Rock, is three-quarter sister to stakes winner Chickens, the dam of Gr3 winner Do You Think.

Situated on the Allyn River, in the Paterson Valley near Gresford NSW, Torryburn Stud has been expanded as an ideal thoroughbred nursery by Jim Cornish, as it is noted for its good weather and rainfall with a blend of soil minerals that build excellent conformation. It is said that Dorothea Mackellar was inspired by the setting of Torryburn in writing her evocative poem ‘My Country.’
