Terminology too smart in Magic Maiden

Promising filly Terminology scored a brilliant win at Magic Millions day, but for connections it was probably a year late.

Terminology, the $2.70 favourite, continued the domination of Sydney horses in the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m) on Saturday when she beat Rock ($8) by a length with 1-3/4 lengths to Legarde ($21).

The filly clocked 1.08:68, a new race record.

The Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott trained filly ran second to eventual winner Sunlight in the lead-up to last year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic but didn’t make the field.

Since then Terminology has shown her class with a last-start second in the Gosford Guineas two weeks ago.

Bott said the Gosford run had given Terminology some black type in her pedigree and it was now the plan to target a stakes win.

“She showed ability as a two-year-old but didn’t make the Millions field. She is stronger now. This was an ideal a race for her but she is now shaping up to something better,” he said.

Terminology will now return to Sydney where she will chase black type races in the autumn.

It was Waterhouse’s 14th win on Magic Millions day which includes four wins in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but her first in the Maiden.

Sydney horses have won now won eight of the past 10 Magic Millions Maidens.
