Gollan sticks to winning formula for 2YOs

Premier trainer Tony Gollan hopes to use an increasingly successful formula for the debuts of well-bred two-year-old fillies Purroni and Sizzling Power on Saturday.

The pair have joined Spirit House as Gollan’s acceptors in the Keylinks Community Services Handicap at Doomben.

However, all three are nominated for a fillies-only two-year-old race at the Gold Coast ,also over 1200m.

The Gold Coast acceptances are on Thursday and Gollan said he was considering accepting with all three in that race.

“Then we can have a look at barriers, weather conditions and the opposition, etc,” he said.

“Nothing is set in stone yet because as all three of my horses have drawn wide at Doomben.”

Gollan has developed a system of starting his two-year-olds on a Tuesday and then running them on the Saturday.

It has proved successful with several youngsters including Garibaldi and Vincere Volare.

Sizzling Power and Purroni trialled in the same heat and both showed pace before being eased to the line and finishing second and fourth respectively in a blanket finish behind Chris Munce’s fast finishing Degas.

Purroni ,who sold for $550,000 at the Magic Millions yearling Sales, is by top sire Pierro out of the mare Pure Purrfection making her a half-sister to Gollan’s smart filly Outback Barbie.

Sizzling Power also has strong bloodlines as a half-sister to top sprinter Snitzkraft being by Group One winner Sizzling out of the former good race mare Power O’Raylee.

Meanwhile, Gollan’s Gollan Slipper runner Vincere Volare has been sent for a spell after finishing down the track in the big race.

“She was one tired horse on Saturday night and as I feared didn’t handle the very heavy track,” Gollan said.

“She will come back a very good three year old.”
