Godolphin stayer Avilius has made a one-act affair of the Tancred Stakes, beating Big Duke and Rondinella in the weight-for-age staying test.

Given time to find his legs on a heavy track, Avilius tracked into the race at the 600m and put the issue beyond doubt at the 200m.

The win followed the import’s victory in the Ranvet Stakes last week and gave jockey James McDonald a Stakes day Group One double at Rosehill after Verry Elleegant’s success in the Vinery Stud Stakes.
