Attorney to stay home in Sydney

Progressive import Attorney will race at Randwick rather than Eagle Farm with trainer Matthew Smith happy to keep him closer to home.

Smith accepted with Attorney for a 2200m-race in Brisbane on Saturday as well as the Eremein Handicap (2000m) at Randwick unsure how strong the final fields would be.

“I just wanted the option to be able to send him either way in case some of the better horses didn’t accept,” Smith said.

The Warwick Farm trainer is adopting a soft approach with Attorney for now as he bids for his third win from three Australian starts.

Formerly prepared in France by Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mikel Delzangles, Attorney won a 2400m-race and ran second over 3000m before being bought by Terry Henderson’s OTI Syndications.

He was gelded when he arrived and has won over 1600 and 1900m.

“He is obviously a very nice horse but we will just let him work through the grades here,” Smith said.

“The spring may be too soon but he has a lot ahead of him.”

Attorney is the TAB’s $2.20 favourite following confirmation he will run at Randwick with the Chris Waller-trained Wu Gok next pick at $3.70.
